ACCOUNTABLE TO: Community & Partnership Manager, Engage Renfrewshire
RESPONSIBLE FOR: Driving improvement and change through awareness of, and access to, health and employment
services available to the ethnic minority communities of Renfrewshire. Supporting community cohesion through
cultural programmes including events and campaigns. Further developing the Integration Network for
Renfrewshire
Renfrewshire is committed to finding ways of reducing inequalities and improving quality of life for our valued
minority ethnic communities, through systemic change and cultural understanding.
The New Buddies Network Officer, funded by The National Lottery Community Fund, will lead our programme and act as an
integration conduit for Renfrewshire’s ethnic minority groups. The officer will deliver a programme to reduce
barriers as described by our target communities, and improve the wellbeing of participants by increasing access
to health and employability services. As part of Renfrewshire’s ongoing commitment to using culture as a means
of improving life chances, the officer will also support codesign of and involvement in local cultural
programmes. The New Buddies Officer will lead an approach that includes a commitment to developing strong
sustained advocacy by empowering participants to act as local advocates themselves, for their growing
communities.
The New Buddies Network Officer will be aware of the need to empower participants to build confidence, skills and
trusted relationships with partners. This in turn will lead to meaningful codesign and participation in service
delivery improvement, and thus increased levels of health and wellbeing.
Main Duties:
- Utilise Engage’s stakeholder networks to build relationships between colleagues in health, employability and
cultural services and local people from minority ethnic backgrounds.
- Develop and manage IN Renfrewshire
(Integration Network Renfrewshire), ensuring representation from multiple ethnicities.
- Build awareness
and capacity among local partners to accelerate equality and diversity by developing and promoting a Race
Equality Toolkit
- Act to improve on the levels of awareness and accessibility to health and employability
services reported by Renfrewshire’s ethnic minority communities
- Work to improve codesign of and
participation in local cultural programmes by ethnic minority communities of Renfrewshire
- Contribute to
the HSCP (Health & Social Care Partnership) Health Inequalities sub-group; identifying and advising changes
to improve health outcomes for ethnic minority communities.
- Encourage ethnic minority community members
to engage with voluntary sector support and advice groups
- Increase volunteering among ethnic minority
community members.
- Increase partners’ understanding of other barriers such as digital and
poverty.
- Work as a member of Engage Renfrewshire’s Community And Voluntary Action (CAVA)
team
- Develop a network of community advocates which is self-sustaining
- Report to and work
productively with Engage Renfrewshire’s Community & Partnership Manager, and collaborate where relevant with
other CAVA staff
- Understand and connect with the aims of Scottish Government and Renfrewshire Community
