We are looking to recruit an Inclusion Worker to join our team. This post offers applicants the opportunity to join an established, creative and dynamic team.
In partnership with Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire Councils, Aberlour Options Aberdeen Inclusion Service offers community-based education support services. We support children and young people who have complex additional support needs that impacts on their ability to engage with mainstream schooling. The team focus on promoting inclusion for young people who are either excluded from school or accessing a flexible learning pathway to address barriers to inclusion whilst working towards Curriculum for Excellence Experiences and Outcomes. This is combined with a personalised therapeutic level of support to help young people reintegrate back into school or move on to other services that offer vocational learning opportunities.
The inclusion service offers bespoke, therapeutic intervention focussing on raising attainment for young people who struggle to manage the demands of a school environment. This includes developing personalised programmes of support, focussing on developing self-regulatory skills that will enable them to better manage the demands of a formal learning environment in the future.
A full driving Licence is required as the role is carried out over 2 local authority areas of Aberdeen city and Aberdeenshire.
The aim: To reintegrate back into school or, where that isn’t possible, to prepare young people for other learning/work placements.
What the inclusion worker will do:
The personalised nature of the support means that inclusion workers can work on a 1:1 basis as well as supporting small group work that will enable young people to learn at a pace that is both realistic and sustainable for them. The service can be delivered in school, in the community and from the service base, making it a flexible and bespoke support package to best meet the needs of the young person. You will work directly with a group of young people, on a 1-to-1 basis or as part of a small groups, working flexibly and creatively towards a set of agreed outcomes. Although a proportion of this work takes place at our base in Bucksburn, our Inclusion Workers also work within the young person’s community and school settings.
What we are looking for:
Applicants will need to demonstrate flexibility and creativity in all they do. You will practice in a person centred, needs led manner, demonstrating patience, empathy and an understanding of the complex and challenging circumstances that may arise for vulnerable children.
You will also have had experience of working with young people in a community, educational or residential setting.
Registration:
You will be required to register with the Scottish Social Services Council. To register you must hold or be willing to work towards a relevant professional qualification at SCQF level 7 or above (e.g. SVQ3 Care plus an HNC).
What we will offer you:
