Length of contract: This post is funded for 2 years
Background
Clan Childlaw is a law centre providing a unique legal and advocacy service for children and young people. We believe the law needs to work better for children and young people. We act to make this happen through our services.
Street Legal
We have funding from the National Lottery Community Fund to use the law to help young people and families with children affected by homelessness in Edinburgh to realise their rights to housing and support, and to challenge decision makers when they do not meet their legal duty towards young people and families. Street Legal works in partnership with Shelter Scottish Housing Law Service to provide legal advice and representation to young people aged up to 25 years and families with children under the age of 18 years who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
Scottish Care Leavers Housing Advice Service
We have recently been awarded funding from the Scottish Government Third Sector Homelessness Fund to support a new project enabling us to expand our existing housing law and care leavers’ rights work.
The project will provide our innovative person-centred legal outreach service to care experienced young people, including those preparing to leave care, who are aged up to 25, and who are homeless or at risk of experiencing homelessness through living in temporary, unstable, or unsuitable accommodation after care. We will work to reduce the risk and incidence of homelessness amongst this group of young people by using our crossover expertise in housing law and care leavers rights to provide holistic legal interventions.
Through both projects we also provide training, second-tier advice, and our innovative supported advocacy model, enabling services that support young people affected by homelessness and those with experience of care, to advocate on their behalf to prevent homelessness, and permanently increase third-sector capacity to prevent youth homelessness.
Job Description
Supported by the Projects Manager, the person in this role will conduct the work of both projects effectively and efficiently, and ensure that young people, practitioners, and others can reliably access services provided by Clan Childlaw.
They will also contribute to the wider outcomes of the organisation by providing support to training, monitoring & evaluation, and reporting to funders.
The postholder will be part of the Projects Coordinator team.
Membership of the PVG Scheme is essential for this role and the successful candidate will be required to apply for the scheme and produce an acceptable PVG Scheme Record.
