We are now actively searching for a Support Worker to join our team at Thorntree Mill in Edinburgh. We have a full-time, permanent position available at a charitable organisation that is committed to helping those in Scotland experiencing, or at risk of homelessness.

As a Support Worker you will be working with people who are alcohol dependent, have complex (often homelessness related) health needs and are prone to challenging behaviour and episodic poor physical and mental health.

Main responsibilities:

To support the Community Services Manager in delivering the Criminal Justice Outreach and Housing Support Services through the management of staff and in holding a small caseload of service users who are at high risk of causing harm and/or offending behaviours. The Team Leader will provide support and guidance to the teams to enable them to:

achieve positive outcomes, delivering person-centred care and support on an intensive basis to reduce offending behaviour, support and manage the re-integration of service users into society, develop pro-social connections, develop coping strategies to improve health and wellbeing, develop life skills to enable them to sustain their tenancy.

The Team Leader will carry out inductions and mentoring of staff, supervise support practitioners and deputising on behalf of management as required with responsibilities such as directly supervising support practitioners and attending multi-agency meetings and working closely with the Criminal Justice Social Work (CJSW) Team.

Required qualifications: SVQ 4 or equivalent experience to demonstrate management experience

The Mungo Foundation (TMF) is recruiting Trustees for our Board as we seek to improve and enrich the lives of the most vulnerable people in our communities located mainly in Glasgow but with projects as far as Twechar, Lanark and Ayrshire.

You will be joining an experienced board of Trustees who welcome sharing their expertise with those with less experience and learning from those who bring different professional skillsets. Our Trustees oversee the strategy and governance of TMF to ensure that the charity is operated in the best interests of the people we support and their friends and families.

As a Trustee, this voluntary (and unpaid) position is responsible for the overall leadership, strategy and direction of the charity, contributing to the development of our work, promoting the organisation, contributing to effective governance and ensuring compliance with our legal obligations. We are interested in experienced or first-time Trustees who are committed to our cause and have a passion for our mission, vision and values and can make a valuable contribution to our development.

The main duties of a Trustee are to participate in Board and Committee meetings, normally up to 8 per year (and possibly one off-site day), acting as an advocate for TMF’s work, providing advice on strategy, serving as a channel of professional advice within the individual’s own area of expertise and identifying new opportunities. Experience in either Social Care or Finance (Chartered Accountant) is particularly welcome.

Role Purpose:Kidscene is an after school and holiday club for children from the schools in the surrounding area as well as children from the Royal Blind School who have additional support needs as well as a vision impairment.

You will ensure all the children who attend Kidscene feel included and safe by assisting with day to day activities, you will do this by providing quality play and care within the framework of the club’s policies and procedures.

The main responsibilities and accountabilities of this role are:

• To assist with planning, preparing and delivering quality play opportunities within a safe and caring environment adjusting for children with a vision impairment or additional support needs.
• To provide comprehensive care for the children including collecting them from school and delivering them safely to the club and then to parents or carers at the end of the day.
• Provide snacks and refreshments, ensuring that hygiene and health and safety standards are met, including the wearing of appropriate PPE.
• Assist children with personal care.
• To administer first aid to the children when necessary.

• Helping with club administration, where necessary.
• Facilitating good communication with all members of the organisation, parents, schools and childcare and play related agencies.

• Have an appropriate SVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification, as per SSSC requirements or willingness to work towards

• Have an understanding of the issues involved in the delivery of quality play care for all children including those with additional support needs
• Provide and facilitate safe and creative play
• Have the ability to adapt to change and respond positively to non-routine situations
• Have good communication skills
• Be able to work as part of a team
• Undertake appropriate and relevant training
• Have an understanding of the issues of equal opportunities

Requirements of this role are:

• You are a member of the PVG scheme (paid for by Sight Scotland)
• You will have a 6 month probation period
• You must register with the SSSC within 6 months of your start date
• That you participate in all staff training and development and maintain your own professional development
• You will wear the appropriate PPE in accordance with current guidance for the role.
• You will follow Sight Scotland’s guidance, policies and procedures relating to your own health and safety and that of colleagues and service users at all times
