Role

The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh is seeking to appoint a Policy and Public Affairs Officer, to assist us in our policy, media and political engagement work and to support us with our corporate aim of being the ‘voice of physicians’. The ideal candidate will come from a background in public affairs, media, communications or related subject, preferably with an interest in healthcare.

The College is a professional membership organisation and registered charity, which supports the medical profession to deliver the gold standard in healthcare provision. We have a network of over 14,000 members worldwide and help hospital doctors throughout their careers through leading an effective and supportive physicians’ community as well as providing our world-renowned education and training programme, which helps qualified doctors pursue their careers in specialist medicine.

The role

Working within the Global Engagement team and closely with the Policy and Public Affairs Manager, the Policy and Public Affairs Officer will provide a wide range of research, administrative and public affairs and policy activity. They will support the College’s advocacy activities through identifying and analysing relevant policy, providing advice and developing evidence-based positions, undertaking research, monitoring media and policy activity, responding to policy consultations and enquiries from journalists, organising events and providing administrative support.

The Person

The Policy and Public Affairs Officer will be an excellent communicator with internal and external stakeholders at all levels of seniority. They must have the ability to advise on and communicate the College’s policy positions, with experience of researching and drafting briefings and/or policy papers and/or consultation responses. Experience of dealing with enquiries from journalists is preferable.

Remuneration Package

The salary for this role will be £31,643 per annum plus benefits. Additional benefits include:
