Role

At Beatson Cancer Charity we support and enhance the treatment, care and wellbeing of current, former and future cancer patients and their families. We work in partnership with the NHS, The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre and all related facilities. We also offer the wider community a unique opportunity to contribute to the fight against cancer in the broadest possible sense.

We are currently seeking an experienced Finance Officer to join our Finance Team to support the business operations of the Charity and work closely with colleagues across the organisation to ensure seamless financial management and provide timely and accurate management information to the senior leadership team, committees, and the board.

Key Responsibilities

As a key member of the Finance team, the post holder will take the lead role in the monthly income process for the charity. As part of this responsibility, they will work closely with our Supporter Care team and gain experience of the end-to-end income process. Additionally, working with the Finance Manager they will have a diverse and interesting range of general monthly finance tasks as detailed below:

  • Process Income from our CRM system (ThankQ) to the finance system (Sage50).
  • Reconciliation of the fundraising bank account, investigating queries and liaising with the Supporter Care team.
  • Support with Journal preparation
  • Produce monthly full income reconciliation (ThankQ/Sage/bank accounts).
  • Gift-aid: Responsible for monthly processing and reconciliation within the finance system.
  • Respond to ad-hoc reporting and analysis on income. For example, this could be related to individual events or campaigns.
  • Responsible for creating monthly Fundraising Contribution report.
  • Production of monthly budget holder reports (populating reports and distribution).
  • Assisting the Finance Manager in processing month-end journals, Balance Sheet reconciliations, etc.
  • Preparation of monthly cost accruals and prepayments.
  • Beatson Charity Events: supporting with the processing of invoices, managing payments from supporters, attending events to support with cash counting and credit card processing.
  • Assisting with Cash reporting (monthly cash flow report).
  • Cash handling and counting. This could be from donations received or from Trading activities.

Essential Candidate Criteria

  • High level of numeracy, experience of which has been achieved within a similar role.
  • Ability to work effectively alone as well as part of a team.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Finance Systems experience.
  • Good relationship building and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and observe General Data Protection Regulations.
  • A commitment to continuous improvement of finance processes.

Desirable Candidate Criteria

  • Experience of using a CRM system for reporting (e.g., ThankQ, Salesforce etc).
  • Understanding of Gift-aid process.
  • Accountancy qualification (e.g. – Part-qualified CIMA/ACCA, Degree, HND etc.)

  • The ability to work unsupervised, particularly with Hybrid working arrangements.
  • Confident to suggest improvements to current processes and ways of working.
  • Proficient in IT and systems – Microsoft Office 365 and databases.
  • An eye for detail and adaptable to daily changes and challenges.
