Role

Who are we?

Part political, part business and part charity – NUS is a third sector membership organisation with a twist! The student movement in the UK is made up of 500 students’ unions and 7 million students. NUS sits at the heart of this movement, delivering a national student voice and supporting local students’ unions to grow.

In Scotland we represent 500,000 students, with 32 students’ associations in our membership, including all college associations. At NUS Scotland we’ve channeled that power in the last year to win £millions of new funding for student hardship, digital poverty, mental health and student associations.

What’s the job?

NUS Scotland is one of the most influential campaigning organisations in Scotland, securing significant wins for students and promoting the importance of strong students’ associations.

As part of the NUS Scotland campaigns and influencing team, you will help co-ordinate winning campaigns and craft effective public affairs content. You will help mobilise our members across Scotland to take action locally and nationally and help liaise with stakeholders and parliamentarians. Executive support for the NUS Scotland President, including inbox and diary management will be a key component of the role, which will help ensure their visibility and impact.

If you’re passionate about protecting the interests of students – come join us in Scotland’s student movement!

Who you are

You are organised and comfortable putting in place systems and processes to keep others organised too

You have an excellent grasp of how parliament and government in Scotland works and you have direct experience in either public affairs or campaigns in Scotland. You are familiar with the influencing tools that will generate success for NUS Scotland and the wider student movement

Your personal values will mean you are committed to being part of an environment that promotes equality of opportunity whilst recognising and valuing diversity

We particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic candidates, as they are under-represented within NUS Scotland currently.

Why apply?

In return for your passion and experience we offer the flexibility for work-life balance, a competitive salary for the non-profit sector and excellent holidays and benefits. Please see our careers page for further information of what we offer.

This is a part time permanent post (0.6 FTE). The working pattern is 21 hours per week, to be worked Monday to Thursday. Working hours are between 9am and 6pm, and can be worked flexibly.

This role is based at our Edinburgh office, where you’d be expected to work at least once a week and to attend key meetings and events, otherwise we are happy for you to work from the office or from home the rest of your working week.

We’re committed to equality of opportunity for all. We welcome applications from individuals regardless of their race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, age, gender, or disability.

You can be yourself here whoever you are, be proud of the work you do and build a career in a place that knows different is good.
