The Role

EH1 Service- commissioned by City of Edinburgh Council youth justice social work team, seek to support young people aged 12-17 years old who are at risk of being accommodated by the local authority or at risk of further escalation into the care system due to the level of risk posed to them through offending, absconding, anti-social behaviour, substance use or other significant risk taking behaviours. Support consists of weekly 1-1 support to build a relationship, role model, be a consistent positive adult and support young people to engage in pro-social activities as a means of diverting behaviours, building structure, building confidence and supporting them to achieve positive outcomes based on an assessment of their needs.

You will make a difference by:

  • Managing a caseload of young people, planning weekly contacts / 1-1 direct work in the community and attending professional meetings as required.
  • Working to support young people to engage with pro-social activities, support / specialist services which enables them to reach their full potential and which enables them to sustain their home or other care placement.
  • Building strong working relationships with multi-agency partners from the statutory and voluntary sectors to deliver the best outcomes for young people and their families.
  • Ensuring that the Service complies with all Action for Children and Edinburgh City Standards and Procedures and with regard to case file recording / paperwork, incident and accident reporting, safeguarding and health and safety Practitioners will use Action for Children E-Systems to identify needs, interventions and outcomes and with use Edinburgh SWIFT to record case notes etc.
  • Attending regular team meetings and participating in training and learning.

You will need:

  • SVQ 3 Health and Social Care or equivalent.
  • Relevant and recent practitioner experience working with care experienced young people and families and with a working knowledge of safeguarding practice and social care standards. Understanding of the Children's Hearing System and youth justice process.
  • Sound understanding of issues affecting young people and families.
  • Experience of working with creative approaches and methods to engage with hard to reach young people and families.
  • Proven assessment skills and experience of working towards outcome focused care / service plans.
  • Excellent communication skills - verbal and written and IT.
  • Willingness to work flexibly with young people and families; which will include some evening and weekend working.
  • Car driver with access to a vehicle and business insurance
