We're thrilled that you're considering a career with Action for Children so here's what you need to know….
About Us
At Action for Children, we believe that every child should have a safe and happy childhood. Last year, we helped more than 600,000 children and families across the UK. We work to ensure their voices are heard, and campaign to bring lasting change to their lives.
About the Role:
Based in our Inverness office, our Gael Og Probation service works in partnership with the Criminal Justice Social Work. Referred clients are subject to a range of statutory and non-statutory supervision, including, but not limited to: Community Payback Orders (either as part of a Supervision and/or a Programme requirement), diversion from prosecution and structured deferred sentence.
As a Young Person's Practitioner, you will deliver a range of structured and tailored programmes to male and female clients aged 16+. The programmes complement the work of the Criminal Justice Social Work Service, and the support clients receive in their local community. They are predominantly delivered on an individual one-to-one basis, however on occasion they can also be delivered in group settings.
The targeted work aims to reduce offending and enable clients to develop competence in problem solving, social skills, and their ability to take action to prevent relapse and promote a pro-social lifestyle
We understand that there are a lot of jobs out there just now but if this role connects with you, and you really want to make a difference to the lives of young people, then we'd love to see your application. This role will be a mixture of working from our office (IV1) and in the community and also working from home in the current covid climate, but this may change as restrictions ease in the future.
You will help our Young People by:
Delivering and evaluating group and individual work aimed at supporting the offender to develop their abilities through assessment, interventions, discussion, information and practical work on relationships.
Assessing the offenders needs and to promote their health and wellbeing by providing appropriate activities and experiences, using accredited models.
Preparing written reports on the offender for inter‑agency meetings, case conferences, and to contribute to reports as requested by the Case Manager.
Our job description for the Young Person Practitioner outlines the requirements of the role but the ‘must-haves' are:
An open-minded, non-judgemental personality as you will be working with people that are at a vulnerable point in their lives.
SVQ 3 or HNC in Social Care or willingness to work towards.
A UK driving licence and a willingness to travel due to the large rural catchment area.
A Flexible approach to working to support the delivery of the service.
Excellent IT skills including outlook word and excel.
The ability to build relationships and work as part of a multi- disciplinary team.
Experience in facilitating group work sessions desirable.
Driving License and use of a suitable vehicle to enable the duties of the role to be carried out effectively.
Working here is so much more than a job. Whether this is a career change for you or the next step in your journey, we'd love to hear from you.
We work together to reach our vision of safe and happy childhoods. A diverse workforce enriches the lives of the children and young people we work with and we welcome applications from everyone. We value and celebrate our differences and as an inclusive workplace we want everyone to be themselves.
