Role

We're thrilled that you're considering a career with Action for Children so here's what you need to know….

About Us

At Action for Children, we believe that every child should have a safe and happy childhood. Last year, we helped more than 600,000 children and families across the UK. We work to ensure their voices are heard, and campaign to bring lasting change to their lives.

About the Role:

The STAY mentoring service provides intensive support to young people enrolled at college who are at the greatest risk of withdrawal from learning due to circumstances and challenges who may face external situations that may impact on progression.

Our objectives are to assist young people with a successful transition into college, to adapt to college life at enrolment stage and support them throughout their time at college, both within the college environment and within their local community.

STAY project is focused on working alongside Glasgow Colleges (Glasgow Kelvin, Glasgow City, Glasgow Clyde and West College Scotland) to improve retention rates for groups of young people, particularly those in the age 16-26 category and who are vulnerable.

Our mentoring service works alongside the current Student Services provision within the college structure; however, the role will provide additional support both inside and outside the college campus.

As an Employment Facilitator, you will support:

  • Pre-entry, on course and pre-exit guidance to students at college.
  • Budgeting to develop student financial capability.
  • Enhance opportunities for student employability.
  • Delivery of tailored information workshops to both staff and students.
  • Arranging a programme of cross campus events in support of student development and progression.
  • Support vulnerable care experienced, young carers and estranged students to sustain their course through management of a caseload.

What you'll bring:

Our job description for the Employment Facilitator outlines the requirements of the role but the ‘must-haves' are:

  • To be committed, passionate and motivated. We are, and we want you to be too.
  • To be educated to SVQ 3/HNC level or can demonstrate experience in a similar setting. We do not need you to have both, but it is great if you do.
  • Knowledge of FE environment and in particular issues impacting on students.
  • The ability to engage and understand young people from a wide range of backgrounds and the ability to work in partnership with other organisations using a person-centred model.
  • Ability to deal confidently with situations requiring tact and discretion.
  • Ability to interact with people with wide a range of needs and abilities, which might often include challenging behaviour.
  • A current driving license and access to a car to enable the duties of the role to be carried out effectively.

Working with action for children is so much more than a job. Whether this is a career change for you or the next step in your journey, we would love to hear from you.

We work together to reach our vision of safe and happy childhoods. A diverse workforce enriches the lives of the children and young people we work with, and we welcome applications from everyone. We value and celebrate our differences and as an inclusive workplace we want everyone to be themselves.

We are committed to safer recruitment practices to protect our service users; therefore, all applicants are expected to have an understanding of and commitment to safeguarding best-practice.

We can't wait to hear from you – stay safe and happy.
