Role

Do you have what it takes to lead a community that supports and transforms the lives of young adults with special needs every day?

Beannachar is a special place. Located on a beautiful estate only two miles from Aberdeen city, it provides a therapeutic and supportive space that transforms the lives of young adults with special needs.

Part of the Camphill worldwide community, it exists to provide a place where everyone can find purpose and belonging. With a dedicated team of staff and volunteers from all over the world, young people are supported to uncover their latent potential and unique talents as they transition to adulthood. With a commitment to the environment and sustainability at its core, Beannachar has a walled garden; working farm; numerous craft and other workshops as well as residential accommodation – all of which provide an enriching working, social and cultural environment to nurture young people’s potential.

Beannachar is now seeking an exceptional and compassionate leader as its first Community Director to take the organisation into its next phase of development. This role is the most senior position in the organisation, working closely and collaboratively with the board, staff, volunteers and young people to implement a new inclusive strategy and road map to ensure the communities continued success and long-term future.

We’re looking for someone who’s values and ethos align with those of Camphill; someone who is inspiring and engaging; focused and passionate about the work of the community. You’ll bring out the best in people; be clear about the vision, focus and purpose of the organisation and what it takes to secure its longevity. You’ll be resilient and adaptable with a track record in organisational development, managing people, budgets and change.

As the public face of Beannachar, you’ll have credibility and the ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders. Ideally you will have some knowledge of Social Care and regulations, and the funding that supports this, and bring a willingness to quickly understand the regulatory environment in order to manage risk. An appropriate degree or qualification is desirable but not essential.

You do not need to have been a Chief Executive for this role. It is open to candidates who can meet the core criteria and can demonstrate empathic leadership in a variety of ways. You may have managed a project that supports vulnerable groups; been part of a senior management team in the third, public or private sector and/or been a voluntary chair, office bearer or trustee on a charity board.

A high level of visibility is needed with this leadership role along with some out of hours and weekend working. It is expected that the successful candidate would be flexible and live within commuting distance of Beannachar (max 45 minutes travel) as is the norm for residential care. Some financial support is available to help with relocation expenses, where appropriate.

In return, you’ll enjoy a generous package of benefits with a salary of between £45-52K per annum; 8% employer contributory pension and 32 days leave including public holidays. Most of all, you’ll be working in a beautiful, inspiring environment with a committed and dedicated team, knowing you are transforming the lives of young people with special needs every single day.

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to lead a truly person-centre community, committed to realising the best in everyone – young people; volunteers; staff and board.
