We work with 12-21 year olds in North East Edinburgh offering one-to-one support, counselling and creative projects
to support their wellbeing by helping them explore their life choices.
Vacancy: Chair, Board of Trustees
We are looking for a committed individual to join as our Chair on the board of Trustees from January 2024. This is an
incredible opportunity to make a difference with The Junction, playing a key role in progressing our vision
forward whilst partnering with our Director and our board.
Our Chair is a core leadership in the organisation, responsible for connecting and leading relationships between the
Director and the Board. The Chair may also represent the organisation at external events and meetings, act as a
signatory on behalf of The Junction, and take part in recruitment for the board and senior appointments in the
staff team.
We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with previous Trustee, Board and or/committee experience.
There are many important qualities that this role requires and the ideal candidate joining will have previous
leadership experience, willingness to ask questions, share our values of equality, transparency and community as

Responsibilities
Some of the tasks can include:
- Reviewing agendas for the meeting in consultation with the staff and other trustees
- Ensuring meetings
are run efficiently, and discussion and decision-making is democratic and fully participative
- Holding
the casting vote in the event of a split decision
- Ensuring that AGMs are carried out according to the
governing document
- Ensuring structure is in place for board activity and that these are reviewed
regularly, ensuring the board is able to run effectively
- Manage relationship with the Director of The
Junction and act as a representative of the charity at external events

Key attributes, skills and experience
- Experience chairing a board or committee, experience doing this in charity sector is desirable
- Current
or previous experience serving as a trustee or committee member
- Willingness to ask questions and
curiosity

Time commitment
Duties/tasks for the year include:
- Attend 4 board meetings a year (quarterly)
- Attend or dial-in to 4 informal trustee meetings with board members
- Contribute to sub-groups that meets roughly 4 times - a team of staff and board members
- Regular check in calls with the Director
- Attend 2 Development Days with staff and/or trustees (usually but not always a Saturday in Spring and Autumn)
- External events (ad hoc)
