About us

Street Fit Scotland (SFS) provides health, fitness and well-being programmes for groups/individuals who are affected by or experiencing homelessness, including those with substance issues and mental health.

We offer and deliver a variety of physical fitness sessions focusing on improving mental and physical well-being; reducing social isolation and loneliness; encouraging people back into mainstream society.

We are looking for a motivated, committed, enthusiastic, organised, and passionate person to join our team.

The post is for a part-time experienced link worker (Mental Health) 14 hours a week.

Salary Scale starts at 24,478 – 26,272 pro rata

Pension employee contribution minimum 5% and employer contribution 5%

Purpose of job

• Provide 1-1 and group support to SFS participants with mental health/substance issues

• Develop outreach and multi-agency working to increase the reach of our organisation

• Develop support resources and innovative approaches to working

• Exercise alongside participants to build connection

Role and responsibilities

• Deliver emotional and practical support to participants, managing caseloads effectively

• Manage SFS referrals and deliver group-work induction sessions for new referrals including book in paperwork

• Accompany participants to SFS sessions to engage in sessions (where spaces allow you can also participate)

• Make referrals and support people to access other relevant services and partner agencies

• Carry out continuous evaluation of service

• Attend partnership meetings and other service development opportunities

• Attend support and supervision and team meetings

Skills

Essential

• Build positive and non-judgemental relationships with people

• Effective team/group-work

• Good personal computer skills and the ability to use technology

• Good timekeeping, diary, and record management

• Take initiative and make decisions relating to your work taking a proactive approach

• Good communication skills- written and oral

Desirable

• Full clean driver’s licence

• Lived experience

Knowledge

Essential

• Understanding of the issues affecting participants at SFS

• Understanding of safe practice in supporting people with their mental health and coping mechanisms

• Familiar with Street Fit Scotland and our approach to supporting people

• Understanding of Child and Adult protection processes and how to recognise and action concerns

Experience

Essential

• Working with vulnerable people, e.g., people who are experiencing or affected by homelessness

• Working with people with complex needs, e.g., drug and alcohol dependencies, mental health, trauma

• Supporting people to develop independent living skills

• Developing and utilising evaluation tools that help continuously improve the quality of service provided
