We have a long history of working with children and families and partners in East Lothian. Children 1st along with our partner East Lothian Council share a determination to act upon the recommendations from The Independent Care Review and deliver The Promise to children and young people. We are also determined that the full incorporation of the UNCRC means that children will have their rights respected in all areas of their lives and will have a real say in the way they are supported.
This is an eclectic and exciting opportunity for an experienced Manager. Our Service in East Lothian delivers a number of contracts in collaboration with a range of Partners. Our activities includes Early Help and Whole Family Support, Money Advice and Employability advice and support, School Based Support, support for kinship families and children and Family Group Decision Making.
We are looking for an enthusiastic Service Manager who can help meet the holistic needs of children, young people and their families who require support. Our Service supports families in a variety of ways to help ensure that their children can thrive. Our families require a service that is flexible and responsive to their needs and that can help them with challenges they face such as trauma, poverty and unstable family life.

- has experience of keeping children safe in their own families

Base
You will be based in one of the local community hubs in Musselburgh, East Lothian and will travel to connect with colleagues and partners across East Lothian and with Children 1st colleagues in other parts of the organisation.
Salary, Conditions, Pension
We will offer you a competitive salary, generous annual leave entitlement (40 days inclusive of 9 public holidays), flexible working opportunities and a contributory pension scheme.

Family Time Service Manager

We are looking for a compassionate and experienced Family Time Service Manager to lead and oversee our Family Time service. In this role, you will be responsible for managing day to day operations, ensuring the highest standard of service delivery, whilst supporting both families and colleagues.
The Family Time Service Manager will work in collaboration with external stakeholders to facilitate positive and safe family interactions, while also managing staff, maintaining service delivery, and ensuring that all processes comply with relevant guidelines and safeguarding protocols.
The Family Time Service Manager must be a highly organised, empathetic and pro-active individual with proven experience in a managerial role, and experience in childcare or family-facing role. The ideal individual will have excellent communication skills, a strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection, and the ability to manage both people and processes efficiently.

Our Gilmerton Road Short Breaks service offers care and support to children, young people, and their families, aged 5-18. Our children and young people have intellectual disabilities and behaviours that may cause distress. Our mission is to provide essential support and guidance, empowering each young person to achieve their potential and pursue positive outcomes. This commitment lies at the heart of our work.
In your role as Team Leader Residential, you'll lead, inspire and motivate the team to deliver meaningful support that changes children's lives. The Team Leader Residential is a dual role that is split between offering direct support to the young people while undertaking administrative and organisational tasks. You'll have responsibility for rota management, lead on shifts, support staff in their personal development and assist the Registered Manager with the day to day running of the service. Through the direct support, you'll be part of an exceptional team who work together to develop and deliver person-centred care and support plans.
Collaborating with the Registered Manager and fellow Team Leaders, your role involves fostering a supportive culture within our service to ensure staff deliver high-quality care during short breaks.
How you'll help to create brighter futures
Some key responsibilities of a Team Leader Residential role are;
- Providing direct line management to a team of residential staff to deliver high standards of care.
- Support staff team development through training opportunities, staff supervision, and multidisciplinary working.
- Leading shifts and working with the Registered Manager to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and organisational policy and procedure.
- Work to achieve positive outcomes for individual children and young people and contributing to the achievement of an outstanding, good or equivalent rating in external inspection including deputising in the absence of the Registered Manager.
Let's talk about you
- To be SSSC registered, HNC Social care & SVQ Children and young people (or equivalent) and SVQ4 in leadership and management or (willing to work towards).
- Previous experience of supervising staff and coaching and supporting staff to reach a competent standard.
- Significant experience of working with children and young people with Learning Disabilities.
- To be able to effectively and safely deal with children and young people with behaviours of concern.
- Good knowledge of Safeguarding and keeping young people safe.
Residential Project Worker NIGHTS (Disability Short Breaks Service) (19856)

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and commited residential project worker to join our short breaks service. We have a full time waking nights shift position available working on a rota basis, including weekends.
About Caern:
Barnardo's Caern Disability Services consists of three unique Projects who deliver a variety of quality services for young people with learning disabilities and/or autism. We have done this for over forty years.
Our Caern Short Breaks service supports up to 5 children and young people at any one time aged 5-18 by offering short break respite packages to them and their families. All staff play an active role in supporting the children, young people and their families/carers to achieve positive outcomes, as identified in the Young People's Individual Support Plans.
About You:
Ideally you will have experience in working directly with children and young people in a similar setting. Experience in supporting children and young people with a learning disability and/or Autism would be an advantage. Communication with the young people is paramount - the key is time tabling; structure; reliability and consistency. You will be faced with behaviours that challenge, including physical.
The staff team across Caern Services must be fully accepting of our children and be prepared to offer them a professional relationship based on acceptance and informed by our understanding of their individual needs, wishes and experiences. We are passionate about the children and young people that we care for, showing understanding, empathy and consistency in our approach.
You will hold (or be willing to work towards) a relevant professional qualification at SCQF level 7 or above (for example SVQ3 children and young people) plus an HNC in social services. These qualifications are required to register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) as part of your employment. There may be external grants available to partly fund this.
