Role

People are at the heart of who we are and what we do. Day-by-day, person-to-person, we tailor what we offer to what people need. We’re here to provide consistent, friendly and informed support so that people can explore options and take ‘the next step’ towards a positive future. We welcome people with a wide range of skills and experiences to our team – including those who have lived through homelessness.

To make a difference, we need to work flexibly, with everyday leadership, humour and a ‘can do spirit. We want to make it easy, make it right, and make it happen – not only for the people we support but also for each other. Our #OneTeam ethos is core to who we are, and it means caring for and supporting each other regardless of our role, service or location. This is how we roll. We want people who share these values to join us and become a part of the Simon Community Scotland family.

Job Summary

Simon Community Scotland, in Partnership with Fast Forward, is keen to explore the hidden harms of gambling, how this impacts the people we support and how far this hidden gambling addiction accelerates the potential of people becoming homeless.

We are keen to hear from people who have experience working within a homeless context and can support our learning in assisting us to do a deep dive into the issues gambling harm has on people we support.

Can you support us in accelerating learning, responses, partnerships and outcomes for people who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness and who have a hidden or evident gambling harm issue?

Develop a training programme to upskill staff working with people who may be at risk of homelessness or may already be homeless where gambling was a contributory factor in losing their home, or a consequence.

Support our teams by developing digital resources to recognise gambling harm, support and signpost to tailored and specific treatments.

Connect with existing networks and organisations in the gambling harms space through Fast Forwards Network Hub and create opportunities for both homeless/housing and gambling networks to come together.

Deliver quarterly awareness-raising events at Hubs in Glasgow and Edinburgh. SCS will look to create a regular presence and partnership with Fast Forward embedded within homeless services.
