About the role
A new and exciting opportunity to work with us is here, to lead our talented communications team in Scotland sharing Sustrans vision, mission, achievements and values with the media and wider society. You will provide communications and media support for all Sustrans Scotland’s policy and advocacy work; helping to deliver happier, healthier cities and towns for all.
In this crucial role you will ensure that external communications to all key audiences consistently reinforce the charity’s positive reputation in Scotland, while ensuring that all Scotland communications align with the Sustrans’ brand values and strategic priorities around liveable cities and towns for everyone and places for everyone.
You will lead communications of all Transport Scotland funded projects, like our award-winning digital campaign #AndSheCycles, or our media partnership promoting the NCN Route of the Week. You will provide leadership to ensure the full range of projects are showcased and given media profile.
You will build and manage internal and external relationships with key people in the wider communications teams internally and externally with various media outlets.
This role will require travel and work at locations as necessary to undertake projects on behalf of Sustrans. We offer true hybrid working, a flexible mix of working from home and occasional travel to a nearby office hub in Glasgow or Edinburgh.
About you
You should have experience of leading, motivating and managing a team. In this role you will manage a team of 6, delivering exciting campaigns to influence people to be more active in the ways they travel.
Your experience and in-depth understanding of communications and digital marketing through working in these sectors is key to your success in this role, you should also have significant experience of mass and specialist communications and advocacy.
You will build relationships easily, and work collaboratively allowing you to establish and maintain relationships with media partners not only in Scotland, but across the UK.
An understanding of local and/or regional politics and communications and public affairs opportunities that surround them is vital, as is the ability to communicate persuasively on the benefits of sustainable transport projects and Sustrans’ approach to active travel in Scotland.
We ask you demonstrate your experience of leading, developing and implementing communications strategies and delivery plans, policies and budgets in a complex organisation.

The service will focus on ensuring clients are receiving all the income to which they are entitled and seek to enhance clients’ knowledge of all grants, funding, and opportunities available to them.

As Communications Officer, you’ll ensure the smooth delivery of internal and external communications in Scotland, including media and PR. Working across new and existing Samaritans’ campaigns, representing Samaritans to external stakeholders, reacting to the day-to-day news and supporting the development and delivery of a variety of projects.
You’ll be a key driver of our marketing and brand in Scotland. Working with our volunteers, story tellers and partners to support engagement and understanding of our work.

Samaritans Scotland
Join a friendly, supportive, and ambitious staff team in Scotland. Our established Policy and Communications team is working with a range of external stakeholders including the Scottish Government, MSPs and local partners to achieve change and have an impact on suicide risk. There are around 1000 Samaritans volunteers across Scotland working in our 19 branches. The Trust
Lanarkshire Cancer Care Trust is a local charity helping cancer patients from all over Lanarkshire by giving them free transport to and from their much-needed hospital and clinic cancer treatments. Our service, which has been running for more than 30 years, is delivered by more than 100 Volunteer Drivers who give their vehicle and time free-of-charge, and we in turn repay them their motoring expenses at a rate of 45p per mile.
The Role
The Fundraiser will play a key role in developing and maintaining relationships with our supporters. We are looking for someone with great people skills, as well as drive, initiative, and determination. You will be diligent and accurate, as well as having a dynamic approach to your work. You will be a natural problem-solver, always looking to improve upon current processes to ensure efficiency.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with, and develop, fundraising events, campaigns and initiatives to engage the Lanarkshire Community and raise awareness of our service.
- Take responsibility to maintain and expand our collection can base, which is currently available in over 200 businesses throughout Lanarkshire.
- Create fundraising materials, including grant proposals.
- Work with other experienced staff members on project funding initiatives.
- Attend networking events to promote our service and fundraising initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Drivers Licence and own vehicle is essential
- You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Solid organisational skills and the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
- Self-motivated and proactive with the ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
- Passionate about the service we deliver and the community we serve.
