The Role

Space is seeking an experienced Senior Youth Worker to join our existing team.

The main purpose of the role is to plan, organise and deliver a programme of interesting, fun youth work activities in consultation with the young people that access the club, ensuring they are at the centre of their own planning.

The Senior Youth Worker will facilitate a much needed safe space in the community for children and young people to engage in a range of youth work opportunities, encompassing informal education, fun and issue based sessions.

The post holder will provide direct support to our youth workers and volunteers, and be a key leader in our Youth & Families team, building positive working relationships within Space and externally.

Key Tasks include:

  • Consult with young people to help shape an annual programme of creative, fun activities
  • Plan, implement and deliver weekly sessions alongside the youth work team, encouraging the young people to participate and engage
  • Facilitate the staff and volunteer briefing at the beginning of each session, ensuring the aims and objectives are clear
  • Liaise with the Project Manager before sessions to discuss local/national issues, safety concerns and other relevant matters that may contribute to how sessions are delivered
  • Participate in a debrief with the staff and volunteers after each session. Using the time to identify outcomes, highlight any concerns and potential new areas of work, documenting these in a written evaluation
  • Keep abreast of sector knowledge and standards, research and best practice
  • Be a role model for all staff and stakeholders, showing optimistic, determined and positive leadership
  • Encourage all staff to engage and contribute constructively to matters across the organisation
  • Demonstrate dynamic leadership in line with Space values and comply with organisational HR policies and employment law.

The successful person will have at least 3 years of experience in a Youth Work role and have a recognised professional qualification in youth work, community education, childcare or other subject relevant to this role.
