The Rapid Re-accommodation Welcome Centre provides emergency accommodation with support to anyone who would otherwise be rough sleeping in Edinburgh. It will re-open in October 2023 and close in April 2024, and we are looking for Project Workers to cover a variety of shifts:

  • Dayshifts – 7.45am to 8pm with an hour break
  • Nightshifts – 7.45pm to 8am with an hour break
  • Twilight shifts – 6pm to midnight or 7.45pm to midnight

The role involves working 12-hour day shifts (usually seven on/seven off) and responsibilities include:

  • Working alongside partner agencies to build support plans for individuals who are staying at the centre to help move guests on to more long-term accommodation
  • Providing advice and information to guests particularly on housing issues
  • Ensuring premises are prepared for reception of guests, monitoring admissions, signing in new guests
  • Supervising guest areas and ensuring that there is order and cleanliness
  • Conducting welfare checks

We are looking for candidates with the following knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Experience of working with vulnerable and homeless people
  • An understanding of mental health and addiction issues
  • Ability to deal appropriately with challenging behaviour
  • An SVQ level 3 in Care/Promoting Independence or equivalent is desirable
  • Administrative skills and experienced in the use of Microsoft Office package especially Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Flexibility to respond to a changing environment
  • Ability to maintain clear & accurate records

The post is for 31 weeks beginning on Monday 25 September 2023 with a training week (weekdays, 9am-5pm). The project commences on Wednesday 4 October 2023 and ends on Tuesday 30 April 2024.
