Established in 2002, The BIG Project is a community-based Youth Project located in South west Edinburgh and supporting children and young people aged 5-18 years, living in the Broomhouse area of Edinburgh to learn, achieve, have fun, and feel good about themselves. A trusted and much valued part of the local community The BIG Project provides social, educational, and recreational opportunities for children & young people with a specific focus on those who are disadvantaged. We do this through a range of universal and targeted services, including open youth clubs for all ages from 5 to 18 and 1:1 or small group support for those who are experiencing difficulties at home, at school or in the community.
Investing in young people, keeping them safe and building their future we deliver an innovative programme, promoting activities and interests not as an end in themselves but as part of a wider developmental process. The programme comprises open access youth clubs, youth music, holiday activity programmes, residential trips, a Youth Theatre Project, targeted group work, and individual support.
The Youth and Children’s Worker will take a lead in developing and supporting The BIG Project’s open access youth work programme, ensuring that the organisation meets local need and the targets negotiated with funders.
They will be responsible for developing an innovative programme, including holiday provision and targeted work and for leading on both the consultation and evaluation of this work. They will also support sessional staff and volunteers involved in the programme.
The BIG Project is based in the joint campus of two local Primary Schools and requires staff to work alongside the school staff teams on a daily basis.
