Partnerships Manager – Highlands

We are looking for a Partnerships Manager, who is based in the Inverness or Moray Firth areas to recruit volunteer mentors both in the community and through forming partnerships with key public and private sector organisations.

You will work closely with our Partnerships Managers across Scotland and England as well as our Communications team, to promote the MCR programme to organisations and individuals. The purpose is to recruit committed volunteers who will mentor a young person in their school for one hour a week during term time for a minimum of one year. Based from home, our Partnerships Managers work closely with the wider MCR team ensuring a balance of autonomy and support. Travel to meetings, events and the Scotland and South East England offices are all reimbursed.

Key responsibilities:

  • Recruit volunteer mentors to reach monthly targets both through engagement in the community and with organisations
  • Source and attend in person and remote events to recruit volunteer mentors
  • Clearly communicate the charity's purpose and the proven benefits to young people and mentors, developing purposeful relationships with prospective mentors and organisations through face to face meetings and presentations
  • Work closely with the regional team to tailor mentor recruitment to the needs of your region
  • Working closely with the Partnerships Managers in Scotland and England and our Communications team to manage effective recruitment campaigns
  • Manage systems to evaluate and assess the effectiveness of strategy and practice

About you

  • Experience of and expertise in relationship-building on an organisational and individual level
  • Experience presenting compelling and emotionally engaging information sessions to stakeholder organisations and individuals
  • Experience and understanding of the importance of recruiting a diverse range of volunteers
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Belief in young people’s potential, modelling motivation, commitment and resilience
  • Knowledge of the north of Scotland, its community groups, employers and organisations.

You may have experience of mentoring, volunteering or the third sector. You will be a people person, open minded and equally comfortable presenting to large audiences and engaging on a one to one basis.

Oliver Gill was diagnosed with a very rare and aggressive form of cancer at just a few days old, and despite smiling his way through intensive chemotherapy passed away at 24 weeks old. LoveOliver was started on his parents’ laptop with donations from friends and family.

Today, LoveOliver reaches every family in Scotland with a child diagnosed with cancer, providing practical, financial and emotional support along with the hope of gentler treatments and ultimately a cure, through investment in ground-breaking research. LoveOliver has its own children’s charity shop in Glenrothes and was recently gifted the incredible Hub drop-in centre near Edinburgh’s Royal Hospital for Children & Young People, as well as continuing to provide meals, thermometers and financial grants to every Scottish family impacted by childhood cancer.

As LoveOliver has grown so has our ambition, and we are expanding our small team to help us move forward at this exciting time for the organisation. Help us realise our vision of a country in which every family with a child diagnosed with cancer knows there is hope of a cure and that they will have support on their cancer journey

The Role

This is a new and exciting opportunity to lead on fundraising for LoveOliver. We have a strong network of voluntary community fundraisers who are passionate about supporting families impacted by childhood cancer. As our organisation grows our priority is establishing long-term funding relationships and securing substantial donations from trusts and partners.

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic fundraiser to focus on proactively creating fundraising income opportunities with trusts and foundations. Experience across a range of fundraising types would be advantageous as in this role you will also contribute to our Fundraising Strategy and assist the Charity Manager with creating fundraising resources, coordinating fundraising campaigns and events, and developing relationships with corporate partners.

Our ideal candidate will have a proven track record of generating income and building strong, lasting relationships with funders. The Support Development Worker has the overall responsibility to develop online and direct support services for survivors of organised/ ritualised abuse and people with mental health problems who are affected by extreme childhood abuse. In particular setting up online and face to face support groups.

Major Tasks

  • Recruit, train and supervise volunteers to assist on the project.
  • Develop online peer support groups for survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse who are waiting to access mental health services or unable to access these services.
  • Form a steering group and engage with people with lived experience around the design and structure of the groups, exploring policies and risks.
  • Identify the needs of survivors through discussions around policy and risk in the ways in which virtual space is used.
  • Pilot online support groups and evaluate and demonstrate impact on wellbeing.
  • Organise weekly facilitated support groups to provide ongoing practical and emotional support, peer support and a place to come together.
  • Develop a programme for group sessions covering issues such as mental health, PTSD, coping skills, alternatives to self-harm, benefits advice, healthy relationships and other issues as agreed by participants.
  • Provide 2 groups weekly running for 6-8 weeks aimed at survivors of organised abuse to reduce isolation and loneliness and assist in sharing lived experiences.
  • Monitor and evaluate progress to evaluate and learn what works best for survivors and shape future developments.
  • Support and encourage survivors to access other agencies and services.
  • Carry out on-going consultations and evaluations.
  • Develop partnerships with other agencies working with survivors.
  • Oversee compilation of reports, including evaluation of statistics.
  • Attend meetings and trainings as necessary.
  • Any other duties agreed with Management.
