To provide high quality advice and representation to individuals and families on income maximisation, welfare benefits, debt, housing and money, in line with the Scottish National Standards for Information and Advice Providers.
The adviser will deliver support across a range of settings in line with MAT Standard 8, which states that all people must have access to independent advocacy and support for housing, welfare and income needs. This includes helping individuals to navigate services, have their voice heard, and secure their rights, particularly where poverty, stigma or complex needs create barriers to engagement. The adviser’s work forms part of a project funded through the DDTF Improvement Fund, administered by Corra, which aims to reduce drug-related harm by addressing the wider social and structural factors that impact on recovery and wellbeing.

Organisation Profile
Scottish Alcohol Counselling Consortium (SACC) is a small, member-led organisation of councils on alcohol and local, voluntary alcohol and addiction support agencies. Our member organisations all provide alcohol counselling or one to one support as part of their services.
Our aim is to make a meaningful contribution to communities across Scotland by improving counselling and support for individuals and families affected by alcohol and other addictions.
The post is currently hosted by Murray’s Initiative and the successful candidate will be employed by them. Murray’s Initiative (formally known as Glasgow Council on Alcohol) is an independent Scottish charity that works to reduce alcohol and drug-related harm at both individual and community levels. Established in 1965, Murray’s Initiative adopts a long-term, trauma-informed and asset-based approach to changing the culture around substance use. Its services are built on a person-centred, harm-reduction model, supporting people whether their goal is to reduce consumption or achieve abstinence.
Role :
SACC is looking to attract experienced trainers who hold a COSCA Trainer Accreditation to deliver SACC’s bespoke Counselling People Towards Behaviour Change (CPTBC) course. CPTBC is a 30-hour course accredited by COSCA usually delivered over 8 weeks (negotiable).
The delivery is split between 70% in-person delivery and 30% online delivery. SACC would guarantee at least one course delivery per annum; delivery location is dependent based on geographical demand and can be negotiated.
SACC adheres to the COSCA ethical framework for good practice in counselling, psychotherapy and counselling skills. We also ensure that all trainers contracted by SACC are members of COSCA and suitably qualified.
Additionally, this post requires membership of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme for protected adults. Successful applicants will be required to join the PVG Scheme and have personal liability insurance.

The Extra Help Unit (EHU) provides support to vulnerable domestic consumers and micro-businesses across Great Britain with their energy complaints. As defined in the CEAR Act 2007, the EHU has statutory duties to deal with cases where the consumer’s energy supply has been disconnected or is at risk of imminent disconnection. The Unit also has statutory powers to support vulnerable consumers. A person may be deemed to be vulnerable due to their personal circumstances, the complexity or urgency of their complaint. The EHU is a referral only service with agreed referral partners including Citizens Advice Consumer Service, Ofgem and Ombudsman Services: Energy.
As a Caseworker within the Extra Help Unit, you will carry out an important role by investigating and resolving energy complaints on behalf of vulnerable consumers. You will ensure that the consumer’s personal circumstances and any detriment caused by supplier failures are fully considered when negotiating an outcome. You will deal with a range of callers who are often upset, angry or stressed about their situation. Callers may also be experiencing financial difficulties, or have mental or physical health conditions. You will be expected to support consumers in a respectful, inclusive and non-judgemental manner.
The Caseworker role is both challenging and rewarding, with the majority of complaints and circumstances being complex in nature. You will get to work within a great team, and within a constantly changing energy market with the opportunity to make a difference to people’s lives.

The post is primarily focused on the development, delivery, and evaluation of our Communities that Care work within schools primarily in Edinburgh but will feed into our national work too. Providing training and support to schools and other organisations across Scotland and leading on the evaluation and reporting will be key to this role.
The post holder will work with the Coordinator and existing Development Officer to deliver and report on an already-established programme of training and support for all schools in Edinburgh. The post holder will be responsible for liaising with all primary and secondary schools and key senior leaders within the local authority; providing ongoing training and support; gathering evaluation data via ongoing consultation and focus groups with teachers and pupils; and reporting on the impact of this work on the school community/wider local authority.
Whilst the post holder will have a principal focus on Edinburgh schools, they will also support the delivery of the Communities that Care model to schools and local authorities across the country. Participation is also a key part of this role, with the post holder leading on the development, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of local participation groups and supporting local Care Experienced people to engage with our wider membership offer.
