Purpose of the role!

The Education Supervisor is a key member of the centre’s management team, responsible for leading and supporting staff, overseeing the delivery of high-quality education, and contributing to the overall running of the centre.

The role involves providing effective supervision and people management, working alongside the Centre Manager to manage the staff team and ensure consistent, values-led practice. In partnership with the Education Tutor, the Education Supervisor oversees education delivery to ensure all learning is individualised, meaningful, and aligned with each student’s abilities, needs, and future goals.

The Education Supervisor plays an active role in communication with students, families, and professionals, ensuring a collaborative approach to support and outcomes. They also support the operational management of the centre, including designated compliance responsibilities, ensuring adherence to regulatory frameworks and organisational standards.

Confident in decision-making, the Education Supervisor will contribute to the day-to-day leadership of the centre, including deputising in the absence of the Centre Manager, and supporting wider organisational priorities and continuous improvement.

Who are we looking for?

The successful applicant will have proven experience of working with adults with additional support needs using a person-centred approach.

You will be a confident leader, working closely with the Centre Manager, coaching and leading the staff team to meet the needs of the service, deliver high standards of performance, and create a positive and supportive environment for both staff and students.

You will understand how to connect with the local communities and offer opportunities for development and growth to the students.

You will consistently adhere to the organisation’s values, acting as a positive role model at all times by demonstrating professionalism, integrity, accountability, and respect in your day-to-day practice. You will lead by example, promoting a positive culture, encouraging collaboration, and inspiring others to uphold the standards and behaviours expected across the organisation.

You will be enthusiastic and self-motivated, and must be able to work on your own initiative and as part of a team.

You will be able to communicate effectively 1:1 as well as to groups of people.

Ideally you will have had a level of management experience and previous background in education delivery would be advantageous.

The successful applicants will require membership of the PVG (Protection of Vulnerable Groups) Scheme.

Our team work closely with mums and their babies to provide the advice and guidance they may need to build their attachment and bond with their child, to support their own individual health, wellbeing and independent living skills and ensuring that their babies own growth and developmental needs are being met. We work together with families, social work, health and other colleagues to ensure the strengths and voices of mums and babies are at the heart of all we do while the safety and welfare of the child is always maintained. We work closely with colleagues across the Trust to ensure we are taking a family and community-based approach to work and to create positive onward transitions for mothers and babies.

To support this, our residential role involves a shift pattern over a four-week rota, that requires weekend working, lone working and sleep-ins. About the Role

On appointment, the postholder will lead Out2Play, using the play rangers model of delivery to enable children to play out in greenspaces close to their homes.

The postholder will also staff other sessions run by Play Midlothian. We champion adventurous, self-directed play, with a focus on loose parts, and use varied community settings to create rich play opportunities. A high proportion of sessions take place outdoors, all year round.

Travel and transportation of play resources to multiple sites across Midlothian is required for successful delivery of our services. Most sessions take place after school hours and at weekends, with some during the school day, so flexibility is required, though we do aim to share out weekend working on a rota pattern so that everyone gets predictable weekends off.

This role would suit someone with playwork, youth work or family support experience who is ready to step into frontline management — or an existing manager looking for a values-led, varied, community-based role.

About Aberlour’s Mother and Child Recovery House

Aberlour is proud to be working with the Scottish Government for our dedicated Mother and Child Residential Recovery House based in Dundee. Our service is designed to enable children of women with problematic substance use to stay with mothers during their recovery. Aberlour’s approach to rehabilitation aims to deliver positive outcomes for women and their children.

We support families using the Parents Under Pressure (PuP) program which combines psychological principles relating to parenting, child behaviour and parental emotion regulation within a case management model. The program is highly individualized to suit each family. Parents are given their own Parent Workbook. For many parents, this becomes a personal journal of their treatment experience. The overarching aim of the PuP program is to help parents facing adversity develop positive and secure relationships with their children. Within this strength-based approach, the family environment becomes more nurturing and less conflictual.

What we are looking for....

We are looking to recruit a Residential Support Worker (Nights) to be part of trauma responsive team delivering and implementing residential recovery support for women and their children (0-5 years) to help them reach their aspirations.

You will work an average of 35 hours per week (over two weeks) from 10pm to 8am as part of a residential rota. Week 1: 3 x 10 hour shifts (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday) and Week 2: 4 x 10 hour shifts(Monday, Tuesday, Saturday, Sunday).

Ideally you will have experience of direct work with vulnerable families to support improved capacity for women and children and of working collaboratively with other professional agencies and a working knowledge of drug/alcohol use and its effects on women and children.

You should hold a relevant professional qualification at least SCQF level 7 or equivalent knowledge acquired by other means, with a willingness to obtain the required qualifications for SSSC Registration.

Individuals with Lived Experience of alcohol or drug use are strongly encouraged to apply for these positions where they will gain experience and training to enhance their knowledge and skills. People with lived experience are vital members of the team delivering this service to the women and children.
