The Coordinator plays a vital role in delivering Community Support services across the Lothian area for people living with chest, heart, and stroke conditions, as well as Long Covid.

They are responsible for leading a high-quality, person-centred service that empowers individuals to build confidence, manage their condition, and work towards their own goals. This includes the recruitment, retention, and line management of volunteers who provide goal-oriented and time-limited support, helping people take positive steps towards greater independence and self-management.

The Coordinator will also develop strong local connections and a detailed community map to support effective signposting, ensuring people can access the right support at the right time.

We’re looking for a Policy and Engagement Officer to join the team at the Scottish Legal Complaints Commission, which helps resolve issues raised by the public about work carried out by Scottish lawyers and oversees complaint handling across the legal services sector. We help hundreds of people a year, and our team make decisions which make a difference to people’s lives.

You will build strong relationships with key stakeholders at all levels and manage the organisation’s engagement with them. You will be responsible for drafting reports, responses and other public communications and responding to enquiries from politicians, regulators, consumer groups and other bodies. You will also develop policy proposals and recommendations across a range of issues and deliver briefing and policy advice to board members and senior staff.

You will be enthusiastic, motivated and able to work with others. You’ll bring strong relationship building skills and stakeholder engagement experience. And you’ll be a confident communicator with strong writing skills and an ability to adapt your approach for different audiences.

You must be able to demonstrate experience of policy development and a proven ability to analyse information to produce robust findings and recommendations.

You will need to be able to quickly grasp complex or technical issues. It’s a benefit if you have knowledge of regulation policy, consumer policy, legal issues or equalities issues, but we’re very open to hearing from those with experience in other areas.

This is a hybrid role. We require that you attend our Edinburgh office a minimum of one-third of your working time a quarter (we estimate around 2 days per week for a full-time colleague). There may also be some specific events that you will need to attend in person. Please note your induction will include more office days in the beginning to help you settle into the SLCC, learn about the role and to provide the most support. We also offer flexible working hours that means when you are working from home you can work anytime between 6am and 10pm and 7am to 7pm in the office.

You will also have 42 days paid holiday, including public holidays (pro-rata for less than 35 hours a week). Working proactively and using initiative, the post holder will contribute to proactive forecasting and strategic planning in collaboration with the Business Support Manager. This role will also contribute to the smooth running of the day-to-day activities of the wider Business Support Team, providing cover across other areas when required and supporting organisational projects aimed at improving systems, processes, and efficiency.

You’ll bring:

  • Experience in providing administrative support in a finance, procurement, payroll, or contracts environment.
  • Demonstrable experience in processing purchase to pay transactions such as managing supplier payments.
  • Experience in supporting payroll processes, including collating and checking information for accuracy.
  • Strong numerical skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience in using finance or procurement systems and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.

What will you do as the Senior Grants Officer?

The Senior Grants Officer will lead the Perth City Heritage Fund (PCHF) and Community Heritage Grant scheme, overseeing grant administration, project delivery, training and community engagement. You will manage and support staff, coordinate with stakeholders, and ensure projects are delivered to the highest professional and regulatory standards. You will be responsible for:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading the delivery of the PCHF, including grant assessment, administration, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Managing a portfolio of conservation projects, including design teams, contractors, and end users, ensuring quality, budget, and timeline compliance.
  • Co-managing the Outreach and Skills Officer and line manage the Assistant Grants Officer.
  • Deliver and support traditional skills training, educational workshops, and community engagement activities.
  • Representing PKHT in meetings with funders, statutory bodies, local authorities, property owners, and community partners.
  • Ensuring projects comply with funding, legal, and health and safety requirements.
  • Maintaining robust project records, monitor outcomes, and report to Trustees.
  • Lead on delivery of the Community Heritage Grant scheme, empowering local groups to celebrate and preserve their local heritage.

What does Perth and Kinross Heritage Trust need from you?

Experience:

  • Proven experience delivering and managing grant programmes, ideally in the third sector or heritage sector.
  • Experience managing budgets, contracts, and multiple projects to tight deadlines.
  • Experience producing high-quality written work, including reports, evaluations, and funding submissions.
  • Experience in community engagement leading to project development or successful funding applications.

Key Skills and Attributes

  • Strong understanding of historic building conservation and traditional skills.
  • Knowledge of heritage-led regeneration and the value of the historic environment.
  • Awareness of relevant legislation, including the Tenements (Scotland) Act 2004, Health and Safety, and grant compliance.
  • Excellent organisational and project management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise professional judgment, and collaborate effectively with a small team.
  • IT competence including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Desirable

  • A degree or professional qualification in historic building conservation, architecture, town planning, heritage management, or a related discipline.
  • Membership or working towards accreditation with a relevant professional body (e.g., IHBC, RIAS/RIBA, RICS, CIOB, RTPI).
  • Experience managing historic building grant schemes.
  • Familiarity with Scottish historic buildings, heritage issues, and Perth & Kinross.
