Volunteering Matters is a nationwide charity that exists to create stronger communities through the power of volunteering. We work with local partners to develop impactful programmes that support individuals and communities across the UK.

Since 1962, we’ve used our influence to champion volunteering as a powerful tool to build a thriving, resilient society. Our projects are co-created with the people and communities we work alongside: an approach that encourages our participants to become future volunteers and leaders, not just beneficiaries.

We understand the pressures of day-to-day life and create flexible, inclusive opportunities for people at all stages of life. And beyond delivering projects on the ground, we use our voice to shape policy and practice – ensuring volunteering stays recognised, supported and sustainable for generations to come.

What we do

We help people of all ages and backgrounds get involved in volunteering and social action. We focus on making sure that everyone, no matter their situation, has the chance to take part. We work with local people.

How we do this

We support people to share their time and skills to help others and tackle big challenges in their communities.

  • We remove barriers to volunteering and social action, making it easier for people who don’t always get the chance to take part.
  • We listen to and amplify voices that aren’t always heard, helping volunteers and communities influence change.
  • We help volunteers beyond their first experience, offering training, support, and pathways to new opportunities.
  • We connect businesses with communities, creating meaningful employee volunteering projects.
  • We show the impact of volunteering and social action, proving how it changes lives for the better.

Role Purpose

Grandmentors is our award-winning, inter-generational mentoring project running in almost 20 locations across the UK. We recruit, train and support Volunteer Mentors (normally people aged 50+) who are matched 1:1 with young people (aged 16-26) facing a range of life challenges and barriers. This includes young people with experience of the care system, or with Adverse Childhood Experiences.

Through our mentoring support, young people are more likely to have improved physical and mental health and wellbeing, achieve better outcomes around Education, Employment or Training, build independent living skills, and generally enhance their life chances. In 2026, we are excited to be launching the Grandmentors project in Fife.

We are now looking to recruit a talented, dynamic and professional Volunteer Coordinator to join our team. In this role, you will lead all aspects of the coordination and delivery of Grandmentors Fife.

The right candidate would be someone with great experience of supporting and managing volunteers, working with young people facing a range of life challenges, as well as someone who can work flexibly and demonstrate a commitment to our organisational values.

Ardura Biodiversity Officer

MICT acquired Ardura Community Forest in 2019 on behalf of the Mull community with the specific intention of restoring the forest to a more natural condition while encouraging recreational use of the site.

MICT commissioned TreeStory Limited to produce a Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP) for Ardura. The BAP is based on detailed survey work and an extensive assessment of all the habitats present within the forest to give an understanding of the current condition. The BAP identifies actions to restore and conserve the various habitats and makes provision for monitoring progress against measurable targets for improvement. Work alongside TreeStory Ltd allowed us to achieve the first Forestry Stewardship Council Ecosystem Services impact verification in the UK for Ardura Forest. With approx. 110 hectares of Sitka Spruce harvested from the forest, the focus is now restoration.

From the Biodiversity Action Plan, a Vision for Ardura Community Forest’s Future:

Ardura Community Forest will become an example of community-led conservation and restoration of native Atlantic woodland and wider ecosystems, to a healthy and functioning condition, for the benefit of biodiversity and people. Under MICT’s stewardship the land will contribute to positive ecological processes across the local landscape and will be appreciated and used by those who live and work nearby on the Isle of Mull and visitors from across Scotland, the UK and beyond.

The role of the Stroke Nurse is to facilitate a smooth transition from hospital back into the community, for people who have had a stroke and their families.

The Stroke Nurse helps them adjust to the changes associated with the stroke, through the provision of information, advice and support.

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual who is organised and motivated, with good communication skills. Candidates must have a first level general nursing qualification and have a minimum of 3 years’ post-registration experience in either a hospital or community setting. Experience working with people affected by stroke is desirable.

Kinloss Park project situated in Cupar is a group home for 4 individuals with various conditions such as learning disability, autism, mental health and physical difficulties. The project is 24/7 with a sleepover shift on site for any emergencies during the night. The property is a HMO with a lovely garden and appearance of a family home. Tenants are supported on a 1-2-1 basis and have shared support for meal times and in the evening. There is a 4 week rolling rota in place so you will have your shifts in advance which is effective for maintaining a work life balance.

About the Role

The Support Worker may involve:

  • Supporting individuals with their medication
  • Accessing community-based resources
  • Daily life skills (menu planning, cooking, cleaning, laundry, shopping)
  • Support to manage finances and money
  • Maintain personal health and hygiene including personal care
  • Support with other issues that arise
  • Emotional support
  • Promotion of positive mental health including coping strategies
  • Supporting the individuals to attend volunteering
  • Holidays and weekend breaks
  • Reporting repairs to the council as required

About You

You will:

  • Have a positive, flexible attitude, with an encouraging nature
  • Have excellent communication skills including verbal and written
  • Be highly organised with the ability to work on own initiative
  • Have the ability to react efficiently and effectively in emergency situations
  • Be open to attending and maintaining ongoing training needs
  • Possess an Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) Level 2 in Health and Social Care or have the ability to work towards this qualification
  • Flexibility with shifts patterns including weekend work, evenings, sleepovers and waking nights

All successful candidates will be required to obtain registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) within 6 months of taking up the post
