Safe Space offers 1-1 counselling and groupwork to people of 12 years upwards who have suffered sexual abuse in childhood. Our services are free, independent and impartial, and our workers are professionally trained.

Young People’s coordinator/counsellor

Due to funding from the Bank of Scotland Empower Fund we have the opportunity to restart our Young People’s Service and we are looking for a range of qualified and experienced counsellors in the field of trauma and childhood sexual abuse with experience of working with young people. In addition to Young People’s posts, we are looking for an Adult Counsellor to work in our Outreach service.

We are a small innovative charity working with people who have experienced trauma as a result of childhood sexual abuse and who want help to change their lives for the better. We offer long term counselling and therapeutic groupwork and we are looking to recruit the following staff on 3-year fixed contracts. All candidates will have to do our in-house trauma training Pandora’s Box which takes place over 4 days at weekends- the dates for this are between the 31st August/1st and the 14th/15th September

This new post forms part of the team at Safe Space, providing a counselling service to Young People (age 12-18 years old) at our base in Dunfermline and any other outreach buildings as identified. The coordinator is responsible for leading, supervising and coordinating a small team of a part time counsellor and 2 trainee counsellors to work with young people who have experienced childhood sexual abuse. The post holder will liaise with all relevant agencies associated with young people.

Within the 15 hours the post holder must include the team meetings once a month, group supervision and external supervision. Evening client appointments may be required, as may be occasional weekend work, for which time off in lieu will be granted as appropriate. The holiday entitlement will be 5.6 weeks plus 9 public holidays pro rata.

This post forms part of the team working with young people (age 12-18 years old) at Safe Space, based in Dunfermline. The post holder will deliver a minimum of 8 hours of one-to-one counselling per week, as well as liaise with professionals, school staff, and other relevant bodies.

While most of the 12-hour total will be fulfilled through counselling young people the post holder must attend the regular monthly team meetings at Safe Space. Evening client appointments will be required, as may be occasional weekend work, for which time off in lieu will be granted as appropriate. The holiday entitlement will be 5.6 weeks plus 9 public holidays pro rata. Staff attend weekly staff meetings, internal and external supervision, and a clinical supervision group at Safe Space.

The administrator is responsible for coordinating all administrative tasks which support the Young People’s service. They are the initial contact for clients referring themselves to the service and therefore requires a sensitive, sympathetic approach to anyone contacting Safe Space. Client confidentiality is of the utmost importance.

The staff team consists of several members of staff and many volunteers. The administrator is key in enabling good communication between members of staff, volunteers, external agencies/organisations and people looking for support.

The post requires someone who can be flexible with their working hours. Evening work is required.
