VOCAL - Voice of Carers Across Lothian - is a carer-led organisation employing 60 staff, supported by a team of nearly 50 volunteers, who are based at VOCAL’s Edinburgh Carers’ Hub and Midlothian Carer Centre, and within several health and social care settings across Edinburgh and Midlothian.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Volunteer Engagement and Co-ordination Officer to work within our small HR and Volunteering team. The postholder will play a crucial role in helping us to grow our volunteer base and expand VOCAL’s positive culture of volunteering. Working closely with our volunteer line managers and other colleagues across the organisation, duties will include:

  • leading VOCAL’s recruitment, induction, training support, coordination and motivation of our volunteers;
  • developing and updating volunteer policies and procedures;
  • supporting the development and implementation of VOCAL’s quality assurance standards for best volunteering practice (Investing in Volunteers);
  • co-ordinating, supporting and attending volunteer events;
  • carrying out relevant project work and providing administrative support for the HR Manager as required.

The successful candidate will have experience working with, supporting and motivating volunteers in the third or charitable sector and will be able to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of volunteering policies, procedures and best practice as well as an understanding of the motivational and training needs of volunteers. In addition, they will have excellent problem solving, communication, interpersonal and organisational skills combined with strong administrative and IT skills, and a flexible and proactive approach to their work.
