Our Residential Support Workers create a safe and supportive environment for children and young people to grow and develop. About the service
Our Gilmerton Road Project provides short breaks and outreach support for children and young people (aged 5-21) with learning disabilities and we're excited to offer a unique opportunity for experienced Residential Support Worker's to join our dedicated team.
As a Residential Support Worker, you'll play a pivotal role in empowering children and young people to explore their world, build connections, and create lasting memories by;
Facilitating Short Breaks:As part of a highly skilled team of practitioners, you'll welcome the young people we support to make the most of their short breaks, developing new skills, socialising, and gaining independence while they are in our care.
Community Engagement:You'll also spend time out and about, supporting our children to access local communities. Whether it's a trip to the beach, an afternoon at the zoo, or playtime in the park, you'll be there to facilitate enriching experiences.
We also work in partnership with CAMHS ID and our own Behaviour Consultant to develop and deliver person centred support plans that offer consistency and clear outcomes for all our young people.
How you'll help to create brighter futures
Some key responsibilities of the Residential Support Worker role;
- Provide lead case/care planning management, including assessing, reviewing and managing risk.
- Co-ordinating responsibilities within the service, with multi agency and producing family information, including analysis and written reports.
- Attendance at professional meetings including reviews, court work etc.
- Help young people in all aspects of their daily lives.
- Have good communication skills and the ability to engage well with both young people, colleagues and other professionals.
- Be a creative thinker and having a solution focused approach.

Are you resilient and have a positive approach to change and challenge? We're looking for someone with a ‘can do' attitude to join our team. Ideally you'll have:
- Demonstrable experience of working in a care setting and developing positive relationships through trust.
- Application of a range of techniques to co-ordinate and communicate with service users and their families.
- Demonstrate a solution focused approach to address problems, individually and in a team setting.
- Demonstrate emotional resilience to respond to the challenging nature of the role.
- Possess a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or recognised equivalent) or if you do not possess this you must be prepared to complete this within 2 years of commencing employment with us, full support will be provided.

Children First’s ambition is for every child in Scotland to be safe, loved and well with their family. As a charity we offer emotional, practical, and financial support to help families to put children first and campaign to uphold the rights of every child.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of our team in Midlothian who are funded to support families experiencing challenges relating to parental substance use, poverty, poor mental health and trauma amongst other factors. In addition, we support Kinship carers and the children and young people in their care. If you have experience of working within child protection processes, are committed to restorative approaches, meaningfully involving children and families, and have a professional qualification in a relevant area such as Social Work, Teaching or equivalent in Childcare/Social Care or related area, accredited counselling qualification, or other relevant qualification at SCQF level 9 or higher then we want to hear from you.

About Aberlour Options Fife Residential Glenrothes
At Aberlour we listen to understand what our young people want and need within our local area. As such, our services in Glenrothes support young people with learning disabilities and/or autism to live and thrive within the local community.
What we are looking for....
As someone who has built up experience working in residential childcare, you will have the confidence to guide and direct the provision of care to the children and young people in the service. You will play a pivotal role, working in partnership with parents and families to meet the emotional and physical needs of children and young people with complex disabilities.
When on shift, you will play a lead role, mentoring and supporting staff and being a role model, delivering excellence in the services we provide. You will assist in assessing, planning and delivering services, taking responsibility for ensuring that assessment and interventions are prepared, monitored and evaluated.
Engaging positively with children, young people and families you will plan and implement appropriate support for the children and young people. Sensitive and accurate reporting is a key responsibility and so you will have good written communication skills and the ability to learn how to use effectively, Aberlour’s recording system: Dynamics.
This role offers the opportunity to consolidate and build on your experience combined with the ability to enhance your skills and knowledge through training, for example, in Dyadic Developmental Practice.
As part of the management team you will play an active role in ensuring that shift duties are delegated and completed in accordance with service guidance.
Senior Young People’s Workers will work 22.5 hours of their role on shift and the remaining 15 hours of their time working alongside the Service Manager on operational tasks and standardising practice. Overnight sleep ins are part of the role, alongside an awake member of night staff.

About Options Fife...
At Options Fife we have been providing person centred services to children and young people with a learning disability and/or Autism for over 25 years. Our Family Workers enhance the existing provision offered, enabling whole family support for children and families with complex learning needs.
What we are looking for....
As a Family Worker, you will offer emotional and direct practical help to families experiencing short- or long-term challenges. You will work with families; identifying areas where support is required, working with them to co-produce a family support plan which will be individually tailored to their child’s and family’s needs. You will agree outcomes and personal goals within the child’s plan.
- The role of the Family Worker will be diverse and wide ranging and will include the following: Promote and develop healthy routines, including sleep.
- Provide practical support with personal care.
- Support the development of play routines.
- Support parents to address difficulties and reduce risks.
- Build upon parents existing knowledge and equip them with enabling strategies and tools.
- Support families to have positive and rewarding relationships.
- Support families to implement structure, identify triggers and understand the function and purpose of their child’s behaviour and reduce challenges from escalating.
- Along with families, liaise and work with partners and colleagues from Social Work, Health and Education to assess, review and evaluate progress.
- You will have experience of supporting children and families with a learning disability and Autism. You will have up-to-date knowledge of best practice and supporting tools and interventions.
You will manage your own diary, and your hours will be 20 per week, worked flexibly between 7am and 10pm, Monday to Sunday. The days and hours worked will be agreed with families within the family support plan. There may also occasionally be a need to provide additional support out with these times and to be able to respond to crises and family stress.
