Children First, Scotland’s national children’s charity, is seeking to appoint a Support Line Coordinator. By joining our team, you will help us stand up for children, keep them safe and support them to recover from trauma and abuse through our national and local services.

The role

Based in Edinburgh, with hybrid working an option, the role involves offering expert care, guidance and support for families, carers and professionals in Scotland. Delivering high quality information and support in a timely manner to enable you to handle a large volume of inbound and outbound calls.

You will be required to maintain accurate records that inform the charity and support with service development and meeting our organisational strategy.

Today’s generation are facing unprecedented challenges. From mental health, money worries and online harm, to struggles at school, our support line can offer emotional, practical and financial support to any family in Scotland. We also offer advice to anyone who is concerned about a child’s wellbeing.

Taking a child-centred approach, you will work to ensure the safety of children and young people by protecting and promoting their rights.

Please note - there is one permanent post available, and two fixed-term posts initially until 31st March 2026 (with the possibility of extension).

What we are looking for

You will possess a diploma in social work, or a relevant professional qualification (e.g. Health, Education, Community Education) at SCQF level 9.

You will have experience managing or supervising staff, volunteers, and students with experience of project planning and an ability to identify and manage risks.

Overview:

The Employability Advisor will contribute to the organisation’s vision of a Scotland in which single parents and their children are valued and treated equally and fairly, by supporting the delivery of various components which contribute to the North Lanarkshire service, including proactively supporting single parents to enter or re-enter employment, training or education.

The Employability Advisor will be responsible for community engagement, outreach and registration of parents onto the programme, and delivering quality employability support, whilst also engaging with partners in the community and undertaking employer engagement duties to improve outcomes and referral pathways for single parents accessing the service.

They will report to the North Lanarkshire Regional Coordinator and will work as a member of OPFS Employability Team, within the wider OPFS North Lanarkshire service, to provide employability services for single parents facing barriers to entering suitable employment.

Job description

This is a broad picture of the post at the time of preparation. It is not an exhaustive list of all possible duties, and it is recognised that jobs change and evolve over time.

Key tasks and responsibilities

• Families: Help eligible single parents to identify their future goals, assess motivation, develop personal development plans and help in their implementation through individual and group work.
• Barriers: Identify barriers to employment, education or training and work with single parents to address those barriers.
• Liaison: Build links with health, education and third sector organisations and groups across North Lanarkshire to identify eligible single parents interested in progressing towards suitable employment, education or training.
• Case Management: Maintain confidential information, complete all appropriate client paperwork. Record and document meetings and support provided to single parents. Use appropriate reporting tools as required by OPFS and the post funder, complete quarterly reports, case studies and maintain a high level of data management to record, monitor and evaluate targets as set by the funder.
• Work/Vocational Activities & Training: Co-ordinate and deliver a range of employability activities to support single parents facing barriers to employment to develop core knowledge and skills, helping to increase their access to available employment, training and education opportunities. Support provided to single parents via 1:1 and group activities.
• Outreach & Engagement: Undertake activities in communities to actively reach eligible single parents as a basis to support their learning and development and engage them in early work preparation and employer matching activities to support positive change within their lives.
• Job Matching: Provide job ready single parents with the help they need with job searching, interviews, securing and sustaining suitable employment.
• In Work Support: Provide single parents living with complex needs and facing additional barriers to employment with continued in work support to help parents sustain their jobs.
• Local services: Develop knowledge of services related to employment, training, education, childcare and other support. Develop an effective network of referral agencies to support clients’ needs.
• Signpost: Refer single parents to services that will appropriately address their needs.
• Money Advice: Offer benefit advice, better off calculations and access to debt support via NL Tackling Poverty Team.
• Monitoring and Evaluation: Ensure effective recording, monitoring and evaluation procedures are implemented.
• Other Relevant duties: Carrying out any other relevant duties related to the above.

By joining our team, you will help us stand up for children, keep them safe and support them to recover from trauma and abuse through our national and local services.

The role

Based in Aberdeen, with hybrid working an option, the role involves leading on the day-to-day implementation, management, development and growth of our whole family wellbeing service aligned to Fit Like Family Wellbeing collaborative.

Fit Like is a multi agency partnership approach to supporting children and their families throughout Aberdeen City when they present with emerging needs around emotional wellbeing, mental health, family relationships, safety and safeguarding needs and supporting children and young people when they have had a trauma experience to promote their ability to recover.

Taking a child-centred approach, you will work to ensure the safety of children and young people by protecting and promoting their rights.

What we are looking for

You will be an inspiring leader and will possess a degree or diploma in social work, or equivalent professional qualification at SCQF level 9, in addition to recent significant experience in a relevant practice area relating to young people.

You will always put Children First. You will be relational in your approach ands have experience of working collaboratively with partners to ensure the right support at the right time.

UPSIDE – a Scottish Government funded programme will deliver inclusive voluntary throughcare services across Scotland for men, women and young people serving a short-term sentence or following a period on remand. A collaborative and relationship-based partnership model underpins delivery in supporting people to achieve positive outcomes for both them and wider communities.

We are recruiting for a skilled and experienced colleague who can demonstrate a commitment to providing high quality through-care services to join our Barnardo's delivery team. We are looking to recruit 1 Throughcare Community Worker covering Glasgow supporting females and young people. This is a maternity cover until September 2025

Your role will be to support people returning to their community following a short-term sentence or period on remand providing relational and practical support that is tailored and responsive to the needs of the person. Working collaboratively with Throughcare Prison Worker colleagues and a range of partners you will support in co-ordinated pre-release planning to ensure a person's journey is effectively supported. This will involve supporting connections to local, and specialist, services where appropriate and importantly wider community connections.

You will have the ability to establish trusting and genuine relationships with compassionate approaches. You will be self-motivated and understand the importance of collaboration and working in partnership across organisations and sectors to support the best outcomes for people. You will be keen to support your team, Pod area and wider service delivery demonstrating flexibility to service demand as required.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to be involved in shaping and delivering a new high-profile government funded project, that is making a difference to people's lives.

This role will involve working as part of a dynamic local team with workers from across partner organisations. Primarily remotely, with some work expected within your locality and travel as required to support engagement across the partnership.

Being educated to at least SVQ level 3 or equivalent is desirable. Experience of supporting individuals in a community setting, a current driving licence and use of a car for work and being computer literate with proficient experience of Microsoft tools are essential.
