Firefly International’s vision is to promote peace, stability and tolerance in communities affected by war. We support locally-led projects in areas severely affected by conflict that provide safe and inclusive spaces for children to learn and thrive. By focusing on education, the arts, health and well-being, we help to reduce local tensions and promote peaceful dialogue. Currently we support projects in Bosnia Herzegovina and Syria, and support Palestinian communities through funding to partners in Palestine and Egypt.
Firefly International is looking for a part-time Fundraising Manager to lead our work on fundraising, including individual and legacy giving.
The Fundraising Manager position is a new post for Firefly International. This position has been made possible through a specific three-year grant we have been awarded to improve our organisational capacity and strengthen our fundraising systems, in particular for individual and legacy giving. We are currently reviewing our supporter stewardship and finalising a strategy for legacy and in memory giving and this post will be key for its delivery.
The main purpose of this post is to lead the development of this work on legacy giving and related organisational capacity development, to play a key role in Firefly’s wider fundraising and to co-ordinate closely with other colleagues in our small team of four, particularly those working on finance and on communications and external engagement.
The objective of this post is to strengthen Firefly’s current fundraising approaches and systems with the ultimate aim of increasing the charity’s income and thereby the support available for our partners and the children our joint work serves.
Responsiblities
The Fundraising Manager will be responsible for:
- Leading work to develop and deliver Firefly’s legacy fundraising approach as a key element within a wider fundraising strategy including in memory giving, community fundraising, etc.
- Identifying related capacity improvements required (e.g. database use, CRM information quality, external communications materials, etc.) and implementing such improvements.
- Contributing to Firefly’s wider fundraising strategy development and delivery.
- Representing Firefly when required, for example at meetings with potential donors, supporters or at fundraising events.
- Helping to shape strategies for, and undertaking, supporter engagement and stewardship.
- Managing key relationships across the Firefly team, Board, with supporters, their families and important interlocutors such as solicitors.
This Fundraising Manager post has no supervisory responsibilities. However, responsibilities may periodically, and in agreement with the post-holder, involve the oversight and support of volunteers or interns.
Person Specifications
Required experience and qualifications for this Fundraising Manager role would include:
- At least 3 years’ experience of fundraising.
- At least 3 years’ experience of supporter stewardship and engagement.
- Sensitivity and strong communication skills – the ability to engage a variety of people on potentially difficult topics and advocate and express themselves clearly.
- People skills and experience of relationship management.
- Attention to detail and a methodical approach to internal systems and external communications.
- Experience of financial management and analysis of fundraising income.
- Experience of and competence in using CRM systems, preferably Donorfy (Firefly’s CRM).
- Understanding of the constraints of a small charity, and willingness to be adaptable and supportive member of a small team.
- Fluent English and strong written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable experience and qualifications for this Fundraising Manager role would include:
- Experience of legacy and in memory fundraising.
- Membership of Chartered Institute of Fundraising.
- Knowledge of the Scottish charity sector and/or of global development work.
- Knowledge and experience of ‘in memory’ giving.
- Knowledge and experience of fundraising for charity endowment funds.
- Training qualifications in CRM systems and/or fundraising.
Applicants must have the right to work in the UK or be eligible to obtain the right to work in the UK by the start date. Firefly International is not able to sponsor a visa for this role.
The Scottish Youth Parliament is the democratically elected voice of Scotland’s young people. We provide a national platform for young people to discuss the issues that matter to them, defend their rights and influence the decisions that shape their lives.
Around 160 Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament – MSYPs – represent communities and voluntary organisations across Scotland. Our organisation is genuinely youth-led: our campaigns and priorities are shaped by young people, and our Board is made up entirely of young Trustees aged between 16 and 25.
We are now looking for our next Chief Executive. This is an opportunity to lead a respected national organisation with a strong political profile and a proud record of achieving change. SYP’s campaigns have contributed to Votes at 16, equal marriage and the incorporation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child into Scots law.
Working closely with our Chair and Board, you will help set SYP’s strategic direction and turn the ambitions of our Strategic Plan and Dear Scotland’s Future manifesto into meaningful action. You will lead and develop our staff team, strengthen our relationships with decision-makers and partners, and ensure that SYP remains sustainable, well-governed and equipped for the future.
You will also be a visible ambassador for SYP and young people’s rights. You will build trusted relationships across government, Parliament, local authorities, funders, the third sector and the wider youth work community, influencing effectively while protecting SYP’s political impartiality.
We are looking for a values-led, inclusive and ambitious leader with experience of delivering results within a complex organisation.
You will bring strong strategic and people leadership skills, sound judgement and an understanding of governance, finance and organisational risk. You will also understand how policy is developed and influenced in Scotland.
Most importantly, you will believe in youth leadership. You will know how to advise, support and constructively challenge a young board without taking ownership of its decisions. You will listen carefully, communicate openly and create space for young people to lead.
You do not need to be an existing Chief Executive. You may be ready to take your first step into a CEO role, having already demonstrated the leadership capability, values and potential to succeed at this level. Experience of youth work would be valuable but is not essential. What is essential is a genuine commitment to young people’s rights, meaningful participation and social justice.
SYP wants its leadership and staff team to reflect the diversity of Scotland’s young people. We therefore welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and particularly encourage interest from candidates whose perspectives and experiences are underrepresented in senior leadership. A flexible approach to evening and weekend work will be required.

An opportunity to support volunteer mentors and help young people improve confidence, wellbeing and build positive relationships.
Benefits
About the role
We are looking for a proactive and relationship-focused individual to join our team as a Mentoring & Wellbeing Coordinator.
Mentoring coordination is the main focus of this varied and rewarding role. Working within our mentoring team, you will coordinate volunteer-led mentoring that helps children and young people build confidence, develop positive relationships and improve wellbeing. This includes contributing to established programmes such as intandem (for care-experienced young people) and Plusone (preventative and early-intervention mentoring support).
Supporting volunteer mentors is central to the role. You will provide regular guidance and encouragement, recognise their contribution and celebrate successes, helping them build safe, consistent and meaningful relationships with young people. These relationships can make a significant difference to young people’s wellbeing, confidence and sense of connection.
Alongside mentoring coordination, you will provide targeted 1:1 support and contribute to occasional youth work and group activities, particularly for young people engaged with mentoring services. Workload and delivery commitments will be agreed within your 21 weekly hours, with support, supervision and relevant training provided.

We are recruiting for a Family Support Worker to join our new Highland Intensive Family Support programme.
This role is about working alongside young people aged 12 to 18 who are at risk of criminal exploitation, or at risk of being accommodated away from their families. Over a focused 12-week period, you will provide practical and emotional support that builds on family strengths, reduces the need for statutory support and helps young people stay safe and connected.
Right There has spent 200 years standing alongside people in Scotland. Last year, we supported almost 4,000 people to stay in their homes and stay connected to the people they love. Now, as part of our new Highland-wide Intensive Family Support Service, we are looking for an Intensive Family Support Worker who can help young people and families feel safer, stronger and more supported.
Your role
As Family Support Worker, you will build trusted relationships with young people, parents, carers, extended family members and the wider support network around them. You will meet families where they are, with no judgement, and work with them to identify goals, understand needs and create positive change.
What you bring
You may already have experience in family support, youth work, social care, education, community services or another role where you have supported children, young people and families through difficult times. What matters most is that you can build relationships, stay calm when circumstances are complex and work in a way that is respectful, practical and hopeful.
You will be qualified, or willing to work towards a relevant professional qualification, such as SVQ 2 Social Services and Healthcare for Children and Young People, HNC or above. If this role excites you but you do not meet every point, we still encourage you to apply.
Our offer
If you are thoughtful, resilient and committed to helping young people and families create lasting change, we would love to hear from you.
About Us
We are a charity that recently celebrated 200 years of standing alongside people in Scotland. Last year we supported almost 4,000 people to stay in their homes and stay connected to the people they love.
