One Community Scotland is looking to recruit new Trustees to join our Board and help guide the organisation through its next exciting stage of development.

Whether you have served on a charity board before or this would be your first trustee role, we would love to hear from you. We provide full information, ongoing support and governance training to help every trustee succeed.

We are particularly interested in hearing from individuals with experience or knowledge in Human Resources *(HR) to strengthen the skills of our Board. However, we also welcome applications from people with expertise in organisation development, research, education, communications, digital technology, fundraising, marketing or the wider third sector.

About One Community Scotland

One Community Scotland is an award-winning, youth-led charity that supports young people aged 14-24 from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities, with a particular focus on those settling as New Scots in Scotland.

We believe every young person should have the opportunity to feel safe, valued and empowered to achieve their full potential, regardless of their background or circumstances.

Working alongside young people, families and communities, we help remove barriers to inclusion and create opportunities that enable young people to thrive.

Our programmes support young people to:

· Overcome language barriers and build confidence.

· Gain work experience, volunteering and apprenticeship opportunities

· Access First Aid and Mental Health Awareness training.

Our work is grounded in a trauma-informed, person-centred and wellbeing -focused approach, recognising the strengths, experiences and aspirations of every young person we support.

By working in partnership with young people, families, schools, employers and community organisations, we help create pathways to education, employment, personal development and active citizenship, contributing to stronger, safer and more inclusive communities across Scotland.

The Role

The Board of Trustees is responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of One Community Scotland.

Working collectively, trustees ensure the charity remains focused on its charitable purposes, complies with the requirements of the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR), and continues to provide effective support for young people and their families.

Our Board works closely with a dedicated and experience staff team, providing support, challenge and strategic guidance while ensuring good governance and accountability.

We’re Looking for People Who:

We are looking for Trustees who will bring enthusiasm, commitment and a genuine willingness to actively contribute to the work and development of One Community Scotland.

A key attribute for us is being a keen and active contributor. Being a Trustee is more than attending Board meetings. We are looking for people who are willing to engage with the organisation, participate in discussions, ask questions, contribute ideas, share their knowledge and experience, and play an active role in helping us achieve our strategic aims.

You will ideally:

· Share our passion for supporting young people and creating positive change.

· Can think strategically and contribute to good decision-making,

· Enjoy working collaboratively as part of a team.

· Are committed to equality, inclusion and community empowerment.

· Can act with integrity, discretion and confidentiality.

· Are willing to share their skills and experience to help the organisation grow

Experience in Human Resources would be particularly valuable, but enthusiasm, commitment and a willingness to contribute are just as important.

No Previous Trustee Experience?

Many of our current trustees joined the Board without previous governance experience.

We believe diverse perspectives strengthen our Board, and we welcome applications from people who may be taking on a trustee role for the first time.

Access to governance training, and ongoing mentoring will be provided, ensuring you have the knowledge and confident to fulfil the role effectively.

You do not need to have all the answers. What matters is that you are willing to listen, learn, contribute and work collectively with other Trustees and the staff team.

Join Scottish Youth Theatre’s Board!

Scottish Youth Theatre is inviting expressions of interest to join our Board as we approach the significant milestone of the company’s 50th anniversary. Be part of shaping the creative landscape for Scotland’s young theatre-makers.

During an exciting time of evolution of the organisation, as we prepare for our 50th anniversary in 2027, we are reflecting on our impact past, present and future, and working towards a more comprehensive creative offer for young theatre-makers across Scotland. We are seeking up to four new Board members who will join a committed Board and small, industrious staff team with big ambitions.

We are specifically looking for new Board members who meet the following requirements:

• Sound knowledge and experience in one of the identified priority areas – Finance, HR, Legal, Marketing and/or PR
• An enthusiasm for theatre and supporting young people in the arts
• A collaborative approach
• Alignment with the values of the company

We are not currently recruiting for people with skills and knowledge in other areas.

This is an unpaid role with reasonable expenses reimbursed. Board members are required to attend four meetings per year plus the AGM, which are usually held online via Zoom.

The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow is recruiting several new members to our Lay Advisory Group.

About the College

Since being granted our Royal Charter in 1599, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow has been improving health and healthcare for people around the world.

Today, we are a professional membership body providing education, assessment and development to more than 15,000 Fellows and Members at all stages of their careers. We are a UK organisation with a global membership.

Our estate in the heart of Glasgow city centre includes modern conferencing and events facilities, a rich and extensive heritage collection with museum status, a library and our multi award-winning events offering, 1599 at the Royal College.

The Lay Advisory Group

Our Lay Advisory Group brings together people from outside the clinical professions who provide independent perspectives across the College's work. Lay Advisors use their professional experience, skills and judgement to contribute to discussion and decision-making and help ensure that the College considers a broad range of perspectives.

Who are we looking for?

individuals with the following areas of expertise:

• Digital Skills/Artificial Intelligence
• Fundraising
• Examinations and quality assurance
• Assessment of fellowship and scholarship applications

Lay Advisors are appointed specifically to provide an independent perspective, and applicants should therefore not have a professional medical or clinical background. Previous experience as a lay advisor, trustee, non-executive director or committee member would, however, be an advantage.

Commitment

These are voluntary appointments, normally for an initial three-year term, with the option to remain for a second term, by mutual agreement. All reasonable expenses incurred in carrying out the role will be reimbursed in accordance with the College's travel policy.

All lay advisors will become members of the Lay Advisory Group, which meets approximately three to four times each year. Some lay advisors will be expected to attend additional meetings of a relevant College Board or Committee.

All meetings are hybrid, with the option of attending in person at our Glasgow offices or remotely via MS TEAMS.
