JOIN THE VENNY BOARD OF TRUSTEES - HELP SHAPE THE FUTURE OF GLENCASSELS COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

The Venny (Glencassels Community Development Project) is looking for new volunteer Board members to provide governance and strategic direction for this well-established community project.

Based in Craigneuk, The Venny works with children, young people, families and the wider community, providing activities, opportunities and support shaped around local strengths and needs.

What does being a Board Member involve?

Our Board has responsibility for ensuring that The Venny is well managed, well run and fulfils our commitments to both our funders and the local community.

As a Board Member, you will:

• Be a Trustee of a Scottish Charity – Glencassels Community Development Project (SCIO)
• Help ensure that our work reflects the strengths and needs of the local community
• Contribute to important decisions about governance and project development
• Oversee matters such as finance, recruitment, policies, risk and quality of service
• Provide supervision and support to the Project Leader
• Bring your own ideas, experience and perspectives

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for people with an interest in community development who believe that a neighbourhood centre like The Venny can truly support and enrich community life.

We would particularly like to hear from:

• People with strong links to Craigneuk and Wishawhill in North Lanarkshire who would like to become involved in supporting these communities.
• People from the wider community who can bring skills, knowledge or experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Management and governance
  • Human resources
  • Community development
  • Services for children and young people
  • Finance and funding

You don't need previous Board experience. What's important is an interest in our work, a commitment to our community and a willingness to contribute your knowledge, experience and perspective.

Our commitment

The Board meets approximately every 4–6 weeks. This is a voluntary role, and new Board members will be supported to understand The Venny and their responsibilities as Charity Trustees.

About Us

Established over 85 years ago, Youth 1st is the leading support agency for youth organisations, youth groups, youth workers, volunteers and young people in Fife.

Youth 1st provides services which increase the effectiveness and capacity of our members who engage with young people in the youth work sector in Fife. We support and empower youth workers, volunteers and organisations, leading to strong and resilient community-based youth work, which in turn will improve the life experiences and opportunities of young people.

We have an established membership consisting of a number of youth clubs, groups and organisations from throughout Fife. Most of our member groups are organised and run by volunteers.

Our highly experienced staff team offer support, advice, access to training and events to all our members across Fife. We are a valued Youth Work partner in both the Local and National Voluntary Youth Work Sectors and work closely with our partners in Fife Council, NHS Fife, Fife Voluntary Action and other agencies across Fife.

About B:activ

The B:activ project has two main themes, Health Promotion and Young Volunteer development. For us, health promotion is about getting young people more physically active as well as working on exciting projects with organisations such as NHS Fife, Greener Kirkcaldy/Climate Action Fife, Fife Council and Fife Voluntary Action. Delivery of physical activity and games sessions forms a key part of our project and is a great opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of young people.

The other element of B:activ is young volunteer development and is about getting young people more involved in their local community. Whether this is helping out at their local youth club, volunteering at the food bank or building employability skills to help them get a job, this strand of the project involves delivery of fun and engaging sessions such as leadership awards and skills building sessions. It’s great to see young people develop during a leadership course and eventually feel confident enough to stand up in front of their peers and deliver a game.

This role is perfect for someone who is active, energetic, and enthusiastic. You will enjoy working with young people and building positive relationships with a diverse range of individuals and organisations across Fife.

You will be responsible for delivering key parts of the B:activ project and supporting Youth 1st member groups. Using a youth work approach, you will help young people build their confidence and encourage them to be more active in their communities.

You will be expected to co-ordinate and deliver face to face youth work sessions using a range of youth work tools. If you have knowledge of Sports/Physical Activity, Health Promotion, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Climate Action and Youth Awards, this would be a bonus.

We're looking for a versatile and enthusiastic individual to join our small team. Around half of their time will be spent supporting the smooth facilitation of music sessions and events with children and adults. The other half will be spent supporting the operational side of the organisation, with a particular focus on admin and social media tasks. Whether they’re carrying a keyboard into a room or setting up refreshments, engaging with a quiet participant, keeping track of attendance, or crafting the perfect Instagram reel to showcase our impact, the successful candidate will be an important part of the organisation's overall impact and sustainability, and they will be the first point of contact for the organisation for many of our participants and partners.

Regardless of their former educational or professional experiences and outcomes, we are looking for someone who can learn with direction and guidance, isn’t afraid to ask questions when they are uncertain, and can progress to taking ownership over their schedule and workload over their time with the organisation.

YoMo is looking for one experienced Youth work lead full time 35 hours or part time 25 hours.

This fund has to build on our exciting youth work program expanding this within these areas into an early intervention youth work program for young people 12 + who are disengaged from school or at risk of becoming not in education, training or employment.
