This is an exciting time to join Generations Working Together, Scotland’s national centre of excellence for intergenerational practice. Later this year, we will welcome delegates from around the world to Glasgow for the Global Intergenerational Congress. In 2027, we will celebrate our 20th year anniversary while continuing to expand Global Intergenerational Week— creating even greater opportunities to share learning, inspire innovation, and strengthen connections across generations worldwide.

Background

Intergenerational practice brings together people from different generations intentionally to build meaningful, purposeful relationships. By creating regular opportunities for shared learning, creativity, and collaboration, intergenerational work helps break down barriers, reduce ageism, and strengthen community connections. Generations Working Together supports this work across Scotland by delivering training, providing resources, running local and thematic networks, and developing pilot projects. We connect practitioners, volunteers, and organisations, helping them share skills, develop ideas, and create community-led solutions. Through this support, we promote trust, respect, and lasting relationships between generations.

Post overview:

The main purpose of this post is to support GWT to achieve our vision, mission and corporate aims, creating more opportunities for people of all ages to build intergenerational relationships. Key tasks will include influencing the policy and practices of key decision makers, politicians and stakeholders, developing impactful responses to consultations and compiling research and practice evidence, all of which will support the development of intergenerational work across Scotland. The successful candidate will also plan and lead on our annual awareness raising campaign, Global Intergenerational Week.

The post holder will report directly to the CEO and will be based in our Glasgow office (a hybrid form of working is available)

Linlithgow Community Development Trust is a charity formed by residents to deliver changes that benefit our community. • Driving Environmental Initiatives - Encouraging waste reduction, resource reuse, and recycling within the community; promoting energy efficiency, encouraging sustainable transportation options, developing friendly green spaces, supporting local food production.
• Improving Community Health and Wellbeing - Building connections, reducing social isolation, improving mental and physical health and well-being, increasing learning and skill-building.
• Facilitating Community Engagement - Empowering residents to develop innovative and sustainable solutions to create community benefit and capacity-building.

Our staff and volunteers are all local people focusing on projects prioritised by local people. By coming together, we want to access the resources needed to help develop strong, inclusive and meaningful projects that give the community a sense of purpose and value and build confidence that they can take into all areas of their lives. Annually, we engage with over 3000 people through our activities, improving the environment, people’s health and wellbeing and strengthening our communities.

Role Focus:

As part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen the Trust and bring forward more passionate local people to help guide the trust’s development. We are looking to recruit the following board level positions

• Chair of the Board
• Charity Trustees.

As a trustee you will help provide leadership and strategic direction to the trust, ensuring that it continually focuses on the needs and aspirations of the residents of Linlithgow ward and operates in a way that is both transparent and transformational.

As a trustee you will be asked to attend board meetings (currently 9 per year, one of which is the AGM) along with contributing to relevant small subgroup pieces of work where appropriate.

Following the previous chair standing down in April 2026. We are particularly keen to hear from anyone that would be interested in utilizing their skills and experience to provide strong leadership and direction to the organisation by undertaking the position of Chair.

These are voluntary roles, but reasonable expenses will be covered when undertaking any actions agreed on behalf of the trust.

As a Trustee, you will help guide and support this important work, contributing to the strategic leadership and governance of an organisation that makes a real difference to people's lives every day. As we embark on an exciting new strategic phase, we are looking for people who are passionate about our cause and we welcome applications from both experienced Trustees and individuals new to Board roles who can demonstrate the judgement, confidence and strategic perspective required of charity Trustees.

We welcome applications from people with lived experience of being affected by crime, and we are also looking to increase the diversity of Board members. We welcome individuals from all backgrounds, cultures, and communities to apply for Trustee positions, as we believe that a diverse board enhances our ability to provide effective support to victims, representative of our communities.

We are particularly interested in applicants who bring strength in one or more of the following areas:

• Strategic development and organisational transformation – including shaping, delivering or governing strategy in complex or changing environments.

• Organisational sustainability – including income diversification, partnership working, or long term financial viability.

• Criminal justice system experience – policy, practice or leadership experience within justice, statutory or related public services impacting victims and witnesses.

• Charity governance and board leadership – experience as a trustee, non executive, committee chair or senior leader with a strong understanding of good governance.

By joining the Board at this point, Trustees will help shape Victim Support Scotland’s next chapter and contribute to strong, sustainable governance that supports victims and witnesses across Scotland for years to come.

We're looking for Mentors to join an exciting new whole-family employability programme across West Lothian, supporting parents experiencing multiple and interconnected barriers to build confidence, strengthen family wellbeing and move towards sustainable employment.

This is about much more than helping someone find a job.

You'll help families navigate complex systems, connect opportunities around the whole household and build the confidence, stability and relationships that make sustainable employment possible. Every family is different, so you'll take time to understand their aspirations, strengths and circumstances, helping coordinate the right support around them at the right time.

You won't be expected to have all the answers.

Your role is to bring together the right people, organisations and opportunities around each family. We don't replace existing services—we help people navigate them, engage with them and get the very best from them. That's what we mean by Relational Mentoring.

Every journey will be different.

One day you might be meeting a parent in their local community to understand what's preventing them from moving forward. Later you could be accompanying someone to a partner organisation, helping reconnect them with local support, introducing them to an employer or celebrating with a parent who's secured their first interview in years.

You'll become part of West Lothian's local support infrastructure, building trusted relationships with schools, employers, community organisations, family services, health partners and local groups so families experience one connected journey rather than multiple disconnected services.

What you'll do

• Build trusted, strengths-based relationships with parents experiencing multiple and interconnected barriers.

• Support families to identify their aspirations and take practical steps towards greater confidence, stability and sustainable employment.

• Use our Relational Mentoring approach to coordinate support around the whole family, helping people navigate services and opportunities.

• Work alongside parents across a wide range of issues including wellbeing, confidence, finances, housing, employability, family life and community connections.

• Advocate for families, helping remove barriers and ensuring support is joined up around individual needs.

• Build trusted relationships with schools, employers, community organisations, family services, health partners and local groups across West Lothian.

• Maintain an active caseload, celebrating meaningful progress and recording outcomes that matter to each family.

• Contribute to a supportive learning culture, sharing insight and helping continually improve how support is delivered across West Lothian.

What you'll bring

We're looking for people who genuinely enjoy building relationships and helping others recognise what's possible.

You don't need to have worked as a mentor before.

If you've supported people through challenging circumstances, can build trust quickly and believe in people's potential, we'd love to hear from you.

You'll also bring:

• Excellent relationship-building and communication skills.

• A compassionate, curious and strengths-based approach.

• Confidence working alongside people experiencing complex or changing circumstances.

• The ability to encourage, motivate and appropriately challenge people to achieve their goals.

• Strong organisational and digital skills, including Microsoft 365 and CRM systems.

• The ability to manage a varied caseload while working independently.

• Curiosity, systems thinking and the ability to connect people, organisations and opportunities around families.

• Confidence navigating complexity, building partnerships and working collaboratively across organisational boundaries.

• Experience within family support, community development, employability, education, housing, health, social care, youth work, wellbeing or similar environments is advantageous but not essential.

• Knowledge of West Lothian communities and local support services would be highly desirable.

Essential requirements

• Full driving licence and access to a vehicle for regular travel across West Lothian.

• Willingness to work flexibly across communities and partner locations.

• Home broadband to support flexible working.

• Successful PVG Scheme membership.
