The Chairperson plays a pivotal leadership role in ensuring the charity fulfils its mission, maintains the highest standards of governance, and continues to deliver outstanding, person-centred services. Working in close partnership with the Board and the Group Chief Executive Officer, the Chair will provide strategic leadership, uphold accountability, and act as an ambassador for the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

Board Leadership & Governance

• Lead the Board in setting clear strategic direction, providing effective oversight, and supporting high-quality decision-making.
• Ensure the governance of Real Life Options reflects the organisation’s Articles and Memorandum of Association.
• Foster a high-performing Board with the right balance of skills, experience, diversity, and succession planning.
• Promote a strong culture of transparency, compliance, accountability, and ethical leadership.
• Encourage constructive challenge and collective responsibility within the Board.
• Ensure all trustees meet their legal, regulatory, and fiduciary duties.

Strategic Leadership & Oversight

• Work in partnership with the CEO to shape, oversee, and monitor the organisation’s strategy, transformation plans, and long-term objectives.
• Ensure strong alignment between vision, performance, financial sustainability, and risk management.
• Provide oversight of major change and development programmes, ensuring decisions reflect the needs and aspirations of people supported.

Partnership with the CEO

• Build a strong, trusting, and constructive working relationship with the CEO.
• Provide support, guidance, mentoring, and performance appraisal.
• Hold the CEO to account for the delivery of strategic objectives and organisational performance.
• Offer counsel on complex, sensitive, or high-impact decisions.

External Representation & Advocacy

• Act as an ambassador for Real Life Options, building effective relationships with stakeholders, regulators, funders, commissioners, and sector partners.
• Champion the organisation’s mission, values, and the rights and voices of people with learning disabilities and autistic people.

Championing Lived Experience

• Ensure co-production and lived experience are embedded in governance and decision-making.
• Promote the highest standards of safeguarding, quality, and person-centred practice across the organisation.

Effective Board Operations

• Chair Board and committee meetings effectively, ensuring inclusive participation and well-structured, purposeful discussions.
• Ensure the Board receives timely, high-quality information and reporting from the Executive team.
• Lead the annual Board evaluation and support ongoing Board development.

We support people affected by disability, long-term conditions, and social isolation. We work with local communities to improve access to services, activities, and opportunities.

We want Trustees who care about fairness, inclusion, and strong community services.

About the role

Trustees help guide the charity and protect its future. You will:

• Help set the charity’s direction and priorities

• Oversee finances, governance, and risk

• Support and challenge senior staff

• Make sure we meet legal and regulatory duties

• Represent the values of the organisation

• Attend board meetings and occasional events

Meetings usually take place in Clydebank. Some remote attendance is possible.

Who we are looking for

We welcome applications from people with different backgrounds and experiences.

No previous board experience is required. Induction and ongoing support are provided.

You’ll be helping disabled people feel unstoppable. As a Schools & Community Fundraiser you’ll be right at the heart of our team’s efforts to make sure no one affected by spina bifida or hydrocephalus feels alone.

Each year, we aim to raise over £100,000 through Schools & Community Fundraising to support our essential services. Your mission will be to generate income by creating partnerships with Schools & community groups and lead innovation in third-party challenge events, and volunteer-led fundraising efforts across the Central Belt of Scotland (including Edinburgh and Glasgow).

Reporting to: Head of Fundraising & Communications

Place of Work: Hybrid office/home-working model with base being the Dan Young Building, Dullatur G68 0LS. Occasional travel within Scotland to accommodate needs of fundraising. Driving license and access to a car is essential for this role.

Working Hours: The post can be term time (35 hours a week) or Part Time (26.25 hours). Normal work hours are 9.00am to 4.30pm. The role will necessitate working some hours out with normal office hours, including evening and some weekends.

About Us

South West Community Transport is a Scottish charity that supports charities and organisations in Glasgow and surrounding areas by offering safe, accessible, affordable, and friendly minibus hire. Our registered groups are remarkably diverse; including specialist schools, parent and toddler groups, youth groups, elderly support organisations and charities helping those with physical and/or mental health challenges and those fighting addictions.

We also offer a Patient Transport service which allows hundreds of individuals with no access to a car and unable to use public transport, to reach vital health appointments. This service is provided by voluntary drivers and is free to the users.

Role Overview

As our Treasurer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the financial health and sustainability of South West Community Transport. You will oversee our financial management, reporting, and planning, ensuring we continue to support our communities by offering vital transport services.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee the preparation of the annual budget and annual financial statements to the Board

• Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and guidelines.

• Liaise with external auditors and manage the annual audit process.

• Provide financial advice to the board and support strategic planning.

• Monitor cash flow and manage financial risks.

• Present the latest financial position at quarterly Board meetings (balance sheet, cash flow, fundraising performance etc)

• Liaise with relevant staff and trustees to ensure that effective financial procedures and controls are in place
