Employment Rights and Advice Service Caseworker

Role

A Consortium of Citizens Advice Bureaux from the Scottish Borders and Dumfries & Galloway are independent and innovative advice organisations who have come together to offer an enhanced employment advice service to those living and working in the South of Scotland. The caseworker will provide advice on a range of employment related issues including, but not limited to, assistance with grievances and disciplinaries, pay calculations, redundancy rights, maternity and paternity rights, sick leave and dismissals.

They will:

  • Assist the clients to understand their rights and responsibilities regarding employment and self-employment.
  • Undertake casework preparation and help clients to maintain their employment rights, up to and including, representation at employment tribunal.
  • Attend relevant training to build and maintain knowledge of relevant employment matters, as well as ensure they are up to date with relevant employment legislation.
  • Assist in the provision of information and support to volunteer and staff advisers working on employment cases and delivery regular training events to help upskill existing advisers and train new recruits.
  • Engage with external stakeholders to work proactively to limit the number of employment cases arising in the South of Scotland.

This may include some evening work at a time when clients are available and/or when preparing for representation at employment tribunal.
