As Walk Wheel Cycle Trust, we are stepping confidently into the future and building on nearly 50 years of impact as Sustrans, an organisation that helped pioneer the UK’s sustainable travel movement. From the creation of the Bristol-Bath path to the National Cycle Network, School Streets and beyond, our legacy is one of bold ideas, practical delivery, and lasting change.

Now, with a new name and renewed purpose, we’re more ambitious than ever. Our purpose is simple: To make it possible for everyone to walk, wheel and cycle, because it changes everything. Our health. Our wellbeing. Our world.

This is an exciting time for Walk Wheel Cycle Trust. We have launched a new 5-year strategy and placed the charity on a financially sustainable footing. And looking ahead to 2050, our aims for the National Cycle Network are bold:

• Fix it – A seamless, safe and stunning national network.
• Love it – A network embraced by local communities.
• Green it – One that restores nature and connects us to it.
• Connect it – Linking people, places and transport options.

We are building a people-powered movement; one that empowers millions, makes active travel a right not a privilege, and inspires unstoppable political will.

We are now seeking two new Trustees to join our Board at this pivotal time. In addition to working at Board level, you will have substantial experience in at least ONE of the following three areas:

• Post-strategy implementation / organisational effectiveness
• Sustainable travel / Walking, wheeling, cycling / public transport
• Fundraising / philanthropic giving / income generation

SHRUB Cooperative is a member-led cooperative, working for a world without waste.

Our purpose is:

1. To provide a welcoming space for rethinking our relationship to waste, reducing consumption and developing effective use of resources
2. To support community empowerment in Edinburgh, learning and sharing skills to make a practical difference to the world we share
3. To deliver innovative waste prevention, creative reuse and repair practices in a living laboratory of Circular Economy

Our cooperative is in an exciting period of renewal and transition. Although we have recently wound down our Zero Waste Hub, we continue to operate a thriving bike repair project in the Wee Spoke Hub, and support community led projects such as the Repair What You Wear and Sewing Café workshops and food rescue in partnership with The Pavillion cafe. We are now in the process of developing a 10-year plan for the cooperative, in consultation with our members and the wider community, so this is an exciting time to join the organisation and contribute to defining our mission and vision for the future.

As a Registered Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO), our Constitution provides for Trustees to formally oversee the activities of SHRUB Cooperative and ensure we act in accordance with our purposes and the wishes of members of the Cooperative. We are inviting applications to the role of Trustee from SHRUB members and others interested in contributing to the Coop’s development and evolution. Trustees have a wide-ranging remit and there are opportunities for involvement across the work that SHRUB undertakes. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in Fundraising and HR.

Current areas of work within the board include: Welfare and HR, Governance and Policy, Finance and Fundraising, Communications, Social Enterprise, Risk and Compliance, Strategy and Vision. While all trustees normally contribute to a combination of these priority objectives, we are open to trustees specialising in a specific area, according to your particular area of expertise.

Apex Scotland is a leading organisation in the Scottish justice and wider charity sector dedicated to reducing reoffending, promoting social inclusion, and supporting people to build bright futures. We work with individuals facing significant barriers to employment and community integration, helping them to make positive choices and achieve lasting change.

We’ve been going through a period of exciting change and with the arrival of our new CEO, Lindsay Fyffe-Jardine, we are now seeking new Trustees to join our Board and help guide Apex Scotland through the next stage of our development.

As a Trustee, you will play a vital role in shaping our strategic direction, ensuring good governance, and supporting our mission to create safer communities across Scotland.

We are particularly keen to hear from people with skills and experience in:

• Finance and Fundraising
• Criminal justice, social care, or community services
• Marketing, Policy and Advocacy
• Commercial/Private sectors
• Lived experience of the issues Apex Scotland addresses.

Previous Board experience is not essential as training and support will be offered – what matters most is your commitment to our values, your willingness to contribute your expertise, and your passion for making a real difference.
