About Open Seas

Open Seas (openseas.org.uk) is a small environmental charity working in Scotland and beyond to promote environmental recovery in our seas and champion sustainable seafood. Established in 2016, we conduct environmental and policy research to inform consumers, markets and decision-makers as well as generate campaigns to drive positive change for the environmental health of Scotland’s seas.

About the Role

Reporting to the Head of Communications, you’ll join a small, creative, and supportive team working to make a real impact for Scotland’s seas. This is a maternity cover position, offering an exciting opportunity to step into a dynamic role where you can quickly make a difference.

You’ll help craft engaging digital content and drive public campaigns that raise awareness of seafood sustainability and marine protection — inspiring both people and policymakers to take action.

A key part of your work will be supporting collaborative external campaigns and finding imaginative ways to grow Open Seas’ reach and influence. From storytelling through film and design to building our online presence, your creativity will help showcase Scotland’s incredible marine life — and the urgent need to protect it.

You’ll contribute across a range of activities, from managing social media and improving SEO, to developing new website content and visual communications.

Job Description

We are looking for a driven, dynamic & compassionate individual to lead our East Dunbartonshire Young People & Family Service. Our service provides free, confidential support to Young People and Families who are affected by their own or a loved ones substance use. We deliver a wide range of interventions including one to one support sessions, structured group-work, wellbeing activities. We can also provide in-house Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

You will strive to work collaboratively with partners and local communities, ensuring that we are as accessible as possible and that we deliver trauma informed support with the principles of a Recovery Oriented System of Care at the heart of all that we do. You will lead your team, providing development and clear direction aligned with the organisational aims and be a strong advocate for WithYou externally, maintaining and building our profile as you go. An SVQ Level 4 in Social Services and Health care & driving licence would be desirable for this post.

This is a permanent, full-time role working 37.5 hours per week between Monday - Friday 9am to 5pm, with some evening and weekend flexibility as required. The salary for this position is £29,272.60 per annum.

Essential Skills

The most important thing you can bring to this role is clear and inspirational leadership. We’re open to discussions with candidates working in leadership roles outside of the drug and alcohol arena - for example, in mental health or housing. We’re most interested in your ability to demonstrate motivational leadership skills, with the drive to promote staff development and retention. You’ll have the support of a Head of Service Delivery and a wider team of experienced and dedicated stakeholders across the organisation.

If you have experience managing comparable services, as either an established manager or in a team leader or similar capacity and you are looking for the next step up in your career, we would welcome your application.

You should have:

• Experience in drug and alcohol support services, or in an equivalent social care setting
• A proven track record of managing and supervising others
• Experience working with vulnerable people (Young People and Adults)
• SVQ Level 4 in Social Services and Health care (or be willing to complete this)
• Experience of partnership working and within multidisciplinary teams
• Experience of working within community based services
• Ability to develop and lead a cohesive team
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to quickly establish credibility and/or make a positive impact
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written

As an Inclusive SDS Development Worker, you will:

• Promote Self-Directed Support (SDS) to service users, carers, professionals, and partner organisations through confident, clear communication.

• Deliver SDS awareness sessions, preparation sessions, workshops, training, and drop-in events (both in person and digitally).

In order to be successful in this role you should have:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and confidence engaging with a wide variety of people and communities.
• Experience of providing support and/or delivering training, workshops, or group sessions using a community development approach.
• Experience of providing information, advice, and support in a people-focused environment.
• Good knowledge of Self-Directed Support, particularly Option 1 – Direct Payments.

The Role of Activity Centre Manager:

Reporting to the senior management team, the Activity Centre Manager will have overall responsibility for the operational management, development, and day-to-day leadership of the centre, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, and commercially successful activities.

You will oversee all aspects of centre operations, including activity delivery, staffing, facilities, equipment, and logistics, while ensuring every guest experience meets the highest standards of safety, quality, and customer service. You will lead a multidisciplinary team of instructors and operational staff, creating a positive, professional, and safety-led culture, supporting their training, development, and performance.

This is a hands-on, dynamic role where operational excellence, proactive problem-solving, and strong organisational skills are critical. You will ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, licensing, and safeguarding requirements, maintaining robust systems for risk assessment, incident management, and emergency planning. You will also work closely with the senior management team to achieve business targets, optimise income, and support the ongoing development of the site, facilities, and equipment.

You will bring strong operational and people-management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop staff while ensuring high standards of performance, safety, and customer experience. Excellent organisational, financial, and administrative skills are essential, alongside the ability to manage complex, competing priorities. You will have strong interpersonal skills, with experience building and maintaining positive relationships with clients, partners, and stakeholders.

The successful candidate will be flexible, resilient, and willing to work hands-on, including outdoors in all weather conditions and during peak periods, including weekends. You will hold a full UK driving licence, relevant first aid qualifications (or willingness to obtain), and appropriate industry certifications.
