About the role

Families Outside is the only national charity in Scotland that works solely to support children and families affected by imprisonment. This senior management post leads the strategic development and implementation of the work of Families Outside’s Family Support team, linking the work of the Regional Managers and Regional Family Support Coordinators, national Helpline, and support to Prison Visitors’ Centres to improve outcomes for children and families throughout Scotland who are affected by imprisonment. The post holder will lead and inspire a team of managers to deliver high quality integrated support within our values framework (Compassion, Integrity, Tenacity, and Expertise). Undertaking and leading on significant projects, providing strategic leadership, and promoting and representing Families Outside are all key components of this challenging role.

About you

You will need a proven relevant track record, possibly gained in a range of sectors where you operated at a senior level with external audiences and engaged with, and influenced, a variety of stakeholders. You will also need demonstrable experience in managing and developing a diverse family support service, working collaboratively to support families caught up in criminal justice processes, significant experience of child and adult protection and trauma-informed practice, and extensive experience of managing staff, students, and volunteers.

Someone who thrives on working collaboratively with others for the good of the business, you will be adept at building a network of good relationships and have an ability to develop a thorough understanding of the organisation and the wider sector quickly. You will be a good listener and positive influencer who communicates clearly, verbally and in writing; is reasonably comfortable with the media and Parliamentary bodies; and, where appropriate, is able to persuade others to change their views, intentions, or actions.

The leadership role of Director of Services is key for the organisation: you will lead a team of 4 – 5 managers, and as a member of the 3-person Senior Management Team will report directly to the CEO. Providing leadership and effective day-to-day management of the Family Support Team, you will ensure that Families Outside is a key contributor to local and national policy and the lead national voice on issues relating to families affected by imprisonment.

About Aberlour Early Intervention Family Support Service Glasgow

Our Aberlour Early Intervention Family Support Service, based in Glasgow will work in partnership with children and young people (aged 12 years and under) and their families to develop relationship-based, strengths-focused whole family support.

What we are looking for....

We are looking to recruit two Family Support Workers each working 37.5 hours per week, fixed term until 31st March 2026. As a Family Support Worker you will develop a person-centred working relationship with your families, based on a model of 'VOICE, VALIDATION and HOPE'. As a Family Support Worker, you will work directly with families to build on their existing strengths and interests, help children and families build skills and confidence and strengthen community connections. Our ambition is to help children, young people and families feel safe, confident, capable, and included, offering support when it is needed, including evenings and weekends. We are looking for candidates who are experienced in working alongside vulnerable families to assess strengths and needs as well as plan, deliver and evaluate interventions and strategies which enable families to thrive. You will have experience of child and adult protection issues and of working with children, young people and parents/carers affected by domestic abuse, mental health and/or substance misuse. You must share our vision that collaborative working and relationship based early intervention is the best option for children and families who are feeling overwhelmed or excluded.

Ideally you will hold a relevant professional qualification at SCQF level 7 or above, together with relevant experience of working directly with children or young people and their families.

Aberlour will be working in partnership with the Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership and other Third Sector providers to promote the wellbeing of children and young people by offering caring and responsive support, something which is now needed more than ever as a result of the COVID-19 crisis. Aberlour Glasgow Intensive Family Support will deliver the support families need, when they need it. UPSIDE – a Scottish Government funded programme will deliver inclusive voluntary throughcare services across Scotland for men, women and young people serving a short-term sentence or following a period on remand. A collaborative and relationship-based partnership model underpins delivery in supporting people to achieve positive outcomes for both them and wider communities.

We are recruiting for a skilled and experienced colleague who can demonstrate a commitment to providing high quality through-care services to join our Barnardo's delivery team. We are looking to recruit 1 Throughcare Community Worker covering Glasgow supporting females and young people. This is a maternity cover until September 2025

Your role will be to support people returning to their community following a short-term sentence or period on remand providing relational and practical support that is tailored and responsive to the needs of the person. Working collaboratively with Throughcare Prison Worker colleagues and a range of partners you will support in co-ordinated pre-release planning to ensure a person's journey is effectively supported. This will involve supporting connections to local, and specialist, services where appropriate and importantly wider community connections.

You will have the ability to establish trusting and genuine relationships with compassionate approaches. You will be self-motivated and understand the importance of collaboration and working in partnership across organisations and sectors to support the best outcomes for people. You will be keen to support your team, Pod area and wider service delivery demonstrating flexibility to service demand as required.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to be involved in shaping and delivering a new high-profile government funded project, that is making a difference to people's lives.

This role will involve working as part of a dynamic local team with workers from across partner organisations. Primarily remotely, with some work expected within your locality and travel as required to support engagement across the partnership.

Being educated to at least SVQ level 3 or equivalent is desirable. Experience of supporting individuals in a community setting, a current driving licence and use of a car for work and being computer literate with proficient experience of Microsoft tools are essential.
