Lanarkshire Carers is recruiting a Carer Support Worker to join our professional and committed staff team working to make a positive difference delivering information, advice and support services for unpaid carers throughout Lanarkshire. The position is full time, 35 hours per week, worked flexibly to include occasional evenings and weekends.

The role of a Carer Support Worker is demanding and diverse, requiring an organised and skilled approach to manage different workstreams, individual caseloads and new referrals on a daily basis. This is a direct carer facing role and you will engage with unpaid carers in person, individually, in groups, in communities, in our premises, on the phone and online. We operate public offices and outreach activities; carers contact us in many different ways. We are looking for people who understand the culture and value of this sector and nature of job roles within a carer led organisation.

Who are we looking for?

You will have a relevant qualification in health or social care and preferably some work experience relevant to this post. We will also consider someone who is qualified by work and other experience with demonstrable and relevant skills. You must have a good understanding of the impact of caring and the issues unpaid carers face. You will have experience of providing individual and group work support and case management delivering person-centred, strength based and outcome focused approaches.

It is pivotal to Carers Trust's mission to transform the lives of unpaid carers by securing robust evidence to influence changes to policy and practice for unpaid carers in Scotland.

The postholder will play a key role in bringing Scottish voices and perspectives to our UK-wide research and involvement functions and will work with colleagues across the UK to produce impactful evidence to influence changes beyond Scotland's borders. This post will also support the delivery of UK-wide research and involvement strategies in Scotland.

We are looking for candidates who have experience of working with women with complex social needs. You will be working as part of Another Way, a service that works with women involved in or at risk of selling or exchanging sex. The role will have a focus on providing outreach to women who are street-based and working indoors, as well as providing one-to-one support.

You must have experience of providing assertive outreach to ‘hard-to-reach’ groups, as well as an excellent understanding of the support needs of women involved in the transactional sex. You will need to be an effective communicator, highly organised and have effective casework management skills. It is essential that support provided is non-judgmental and respects the wishes of the women we engage with.

You will work closely with other partners and agencies and be expected to ensure the continued development of good partnership working. Experience of working with women involved in transactional sex is desirable.

Membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme is a requirement this post.
