We are recruiting a Community & Events Fundraiser to join Held In Our Hearts, where you will play a vital role in raising funds that
directly support families impacted by baby loss.
This is a meaningful and varied role focused on building strong relationships with local communities, individuals,
volunteers, and grassroots groups across the Highlands and Scotland. You will work to develop creative,
accessible, and engaging fundraising activities that empower supporters and ensure sustainable income for our
services.
We are seeking someone with warmth, empathy, initiative, and energy – someone who thrives on connecting with people,
meeting targets, and inspiring communities to make a difference. This is a unique opportunity to be the local
face of our work, fostering support and compassion in every interaction.
This role requires some weekend and evening work, for which time off in lieu will be given. This role is fixed term
for 1 year – contract extensions will be considered subject to securing funding and income targets.
Job Summary
You will plan, coordinate, and deliver a wide range of community and challenge fundraising initiatives to engage and
inspire people to support Held In Our Hearts. This includes (but is not limited to):
- Local events and campaigns
- Challenge events
- In-memory fundraising
- School, faith and
group partnerships
- Individual giving and community-based appeals
Key responsibilities
- Develop and deliver a calendar of local and regional community fundraising events and activities
- Build
relationships with community members, families, local groups, and volunteers to grow supporter
engagement
- Provide guidance and encouragement to individuals and groups fundraising on our
behalf
- Promote fundraising campaigns via social media, newsletters, talks, and local
networking
- Create engaging and compassionate supporter journeys to thank, update, and retain
supporters
- Recruit, train, and support volunteers involved in community fundraising
activities
- Collaborate with the fundraising team on national campaigns and bespoke
initiatives
- Maintain accurate records on our CRM system and ensure GDPR compliance
- Represent
Held In Our Hearts at community events, talks, and presentations
- Help research and identify new
opportunities for Held In Our Hearts’ fundraising to achieve agreed income targets and appeal to a wide range of
audiences across the fundraising portfolio.
Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain high standards of supporter care and communication at all times
- Keep accurate records and
report on fundraising income and activities
- Comply with all fundraising regulations and codes of
practice
- Stay informed about bereavement support and baby loss awareness to ensure sensitive and
informed communication
- Be an active team member and contribute to wider fundraising planning and team
meetings
- Attend relevant training, workshops, and events as needed
General Responsibilities
- Undertake other duties as required by the Head of Fundraising from time to time.
- Take an active role in
fundraising team meetings.
- Flexibility to work out of normal office hours as required by the events
programme for which time off in lieu will be given.
- To represent Held In Our Hearts at both internal and
external events, meetings and presentations.
- Work flexibly and proactively with other members of the
team.
- Abide by all Held in Our Hearts Policies and Procedures.
- Undertake all mandatory training
as required.
- Participate in annual appraisal and personal development review.
- Provide cover for
other fundraising team members as required.
- The post-holder will have access to confidential data on
staff, families, and services within Held In Our Hearts. Failure to maintain confidentiality will lead to
disciplinary action, which could ultimately lead to dismissal.

Key working Relationships: Individuals and families, local community groups, volunteers and supporters, schools,
churches, and community clubs, staff and internal teams, third party event organisers, third sector partners and
local agencies.

Essential criteria
- Experience in community fundraising or a similar role in engagement, events, or volunteering
- Proven
ability to build trusting relationships with individuals and community groups
- Strong organisational and
time management skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication, including public speaking and writing
for supporters
- Confidence using social media and digital tools to promote campaigns
- Experience
using databases or CRM systems
- Understanding of and sensitivity to the experiences of bereaved
families
- Ability to work independently, with initiative, and flexibly (some evening/weekend
work)
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of the Scottish charity or third sector landscape
- Fundraising qualifications or relevant
training
- Experience supporting volunteers
- Understanding of bereavement services or
trauma-informed work
- Driving licence and access to a vehicle
