Youth Co-ordinator – Greenbank Church, Edinburgh Greenbank Parish Church has the ambition to become more outward looking within our local community and to actively welcome youth and families to church. As part of this action, we are looking to employ someone with a lively Christian faith to help coordinate activities.

Greenbank is part of the Church of Scotland and is very much a parish church, sitting prominently on a main junction in the leafy suburbs of South Morningside on the south of Edinburgh. The church buildings are heavily used by the local community, particularly by the uniformed organisations such as Scouts and Guides. The church also has its own successful pre-school within the building. While hundreds of children and their parents use the buildings every week, a very small proportion of them are involved in the life, work, or worship of the Church. This is an opportunity we would like to address.

The scope of the post will be wide and varied and the person will be able to use their own skills, gifts and experience to do things in their own way, but it will likely cover the following areas:

• Developing a relationship with the children and youth who are currently part of the church and listen to their suggestions

• Reaching out to young people who are on the periphery of the church (eg those who help with special events such as holiday club) and find out what they would like from church

• Possibly serving as a link between the church and our local primary schools

• Play a leading role in the planning and running of holidays clubs and possibly after-school clubs

• Engaging with the youth organisations and other hall users, and excite them about getting involved with church activities • To experiment with holding different kinds of social events and worship that suit young people both in terms of timings, style and content

• Helping to improve the church’s online presence, particularly on social media Person spec. - Essential:

• You have a lively Christian faith and are motivated to share the good news of Jesus

• You are a good communicator

• You are ambitious and have a positive can-do attitude

• You are able to think outside the box and have the confidence to suggest new ideas

• You have good leadership skills and are able to work as part of a team (e.g. with the Minister, the Church Administrator, the Young Church volunteers, etc)

• You must have experience of working with young people

Person spec. - Desirable:

• You have studied theology

• You know your bible

• You have good digital skills inc social media

• You are fun or funny or both

You will be expected to work on Sundays to help with Young Church in the morning and youth groups in the afternoon/evening. Otherwise, working can be on-site or hybrid as preferred. Hours can be fulltime or part-time to suit.

The starting salary will be £30k (or pro-rata based on this salary) and includes 33 days holiday and pension contribution. Please note that a six month probation period will apply.

We are seeking a part time Regional Worker to join our Local Ministries Team to develop SU Scotland’s ministry in Ayrshire working alongside our established School’s Ministry Co-ordinator. This is as part of the Local Ministries’ West Team, which includes Lanarkshire, Glasgow, East & West Dumbartonshire, Argyle & Bute, East Renfrewshire, Renfrewshire and Inverclyde, Ayrshire, Dumfries & Galloway.

Key Responsibilities:

• To bring together local ministry hubs, building relationships with churches, schools, young people and potential volunteers as well as developing those existing relationships to help build our schools’ ministry
• To grow involvement in our residential work regionally and nationally, in missions and holiday clubs
• To develop ministry partnership for this post, for prayer and financial support

Who we are looking for:

The successful applicant will have experience of schools' work and Christian ministry with children and/or young people; someone who has led teams of volunteers and is a confident communicator of Biblical truth with a wide range of young people. You should be based within easy reach of Ayrshire and be prepared to support SU Scotland’s ministry in all parts of the region.

As our ministry extends in line with our 2024 – 2027 Strategy, we are seeking a Learning Manager to develop our training provision for volunteers and staff.

Purpose: To manage a coordinated approach to training, ensuring that staff and volunteers have access to training of the highest quality.

Key Responsibilities:

Work in partnership with the HR Partner, Volunteers Manager and Departmental Leads to identify training needs and ensure that training initiatives align with SU Scotland’s strategic plan and priorities

Design courses for staff and volunteers working closely with relevant subject matter experts and ensuring that the content is aligned to clear outcomes

Investigate potential e-learning tools (feedback and surveys) and implement for all training

Develop evaluations tools (feedback and surveys) and implement for all training, leading to effective reflection, reporting and improvement

Arrange, develop, and where appropriate, deliver engaging and interactive classroom and virtual training sessions

Who we are looking for:

The successful applicant will have a passion to see people grow and develop and have a track record of designing training for organisations and conducting training needs analysis. Strong interpersonal skills demonstrated by the ability to work professionally with a wide range of staff, volunteers and stakeholders is critical. In addition, the ability to communicate effectively, in both written and verbal format is essential.
