Making Rights Real is a small and mighty human rights organisation in Scotland that works with communities and grassroots activists to deliver human rights for everyone. We launched in 2020 and appointed our first Director and team to lead the setting up of our organisation and initiatives with community groups. Success has been remarkable.
Four years after launch, there are challenges ahead that require thoughtful leadership as we transition from a new to an established organisation while maintaining our mightiness and vigour.

Recruitment to the Board
We are delighted to open up recruitment for a new leadership team to govern and inspire the wider board. The new trustees will help us shape the organisation, ensure our governance supports the growing team, and direct resource investment. We are currently recruiting to the following roles:
- Chair of the Board of Trustees
- Treasurer
- Trustee
We would particularly value people with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Living with human rights and/or social justice concerns
- Experience of accessing justice for issues you have experienced, or leading a team (e.g. within civil society)
- Experience working with governance, budgets and relationship building with civil society and communities.
- Fundraising strategies
More than anything though, it is your enthusiasm and commitment to social justice and human rights that we need. We have set up MRR to be a kind, fun and useful organisation.
The role of Trustee / Board Member may be carried out online or in person.

Big Hearts Community Trust is welcoming applications to join the charity’s Board of Trustees in 2025.
There are two Trustee positions:
- One to be filled by an experienced finance professional or accountant ideally with some charity knowledge
- The other to be filled by an individual who has an interest or experience in charity governance and may be interested in being a future Chair for Big Hearts.
This is a fantastic opportunity for two individuals to join the Board of Heart of Midlothian FC’s official charity and play a part in supporting local communities through the power of the beautiful game.
Big Hearts is an award-winning charity changing lives through football since 2015. With projects including Memories, Kinship Care, Welcome Through Football and School’s Out, we are considered one of the leading football charities in Scotland and recognised for the high standard of our free support services around mental health, equality and social connections. The charity currently runs over 15 projects and employs a core team of 17 staff.

Communications and Engagement Officer

This is an exciting opportunity for a values-driven Communications and Engagement practitioner to join the Scotland Malawi Partnership to listen to and be led by Malawians, to support and amplify the work of our members and secretariat and provide a respectful, leading voice in the Scottish international development sector.
The post-holder will build on the excellent work of their predecessors to help deliver high quality communications in support of key events as well as continuing to respond to and communicate with the SMP’s membership and other target audiences. We are a close-knit, collaborative team and whilst each individual has their responsibilities for delivery, there is also a strong emphasis on supporting one-another and ‘mucking-in’ where it’s useful.
This role requires a highly motivated, energetic, adaptable and productive individual who has the experience and ability to contribute to a small, fast-paced team. There will be a high degree of autonomy, and the successful applicant will be resourceful and eager to contribute to the life and work of a busy team which is both strategic and agile in responding to members’ needs.
Following the Covid crisis, digital communications have become more important than ever. Hybrid meetings enable us to listen to and be led by Malawians and for significant participation from Malawi, the diaspora in Scotland and SMP members from the Borders to the Northern Isles. We are looking for an individual that can think innovatively about how best to use the digital space to disseminate key information, engage members and stakeholders, and share the Partnership’s core narrative.
We need someone who shares our commitment to dignified people-to-people links with Malawi, who has proven experience with a range of digital tools and platforms, who has a keen eye for detail, a passion for internationalism, and the personal drive and determination. We are looking for a motivated and well-organised individual to support a new team working with communities across Scotland on the sustainable transfer of former places of worship into community ownership.
This role is office-based, working in Edinburgh or Inverness, but with the potential for some home working. Travel throughout the country will also be required
Community Ownership Support Service – Churches Advisor (FTC)

Do you have experience of working with groups, able to provide information and to be a mentor? Are you able to work in partnership with a wide range of organisations?
We are looking for a Churches Advisor to cover central and southern Scotland. Working with an Advisor already in post, as well as the Community Ownership Support Service team, this role will work with communities across Scotland on the sustainable transfer of former places of worship into community ownership.
