Street Soccer is a charity using football to create lasting change in the lives of isolated and excluded adults and young people. We run 60 sessions a week of free, inclusive and judgement-free football. These sessions provide person-centred support to players facing a number of challenges including mental health, homelessness, long term unemployment, problem substance use, criminal justice and seeking asylum. Our mission is to create hope and opportunity for all.

We support thousands of players a year on their journey to positive change by providing a safe space, trusting relationships and a sense of belonging. We fight isolation and exclusion by bringing people together, building confidence and creating supportive communities. We support people of all ages and backgrounds through relationship-based support, focusing on trust and personal development, supporting everyone to set and achieve their own goals. Thanks to the support of Street Soccer, 82% of players say that their quality of life has improved.

Lived experience is at the heart of what we do, with over 80% of our staff having lived experience of the challenges our players face.

97% of players think that Street Soccer is a unique organisation. With 15 years of experience delivering positive change through football, we are now working in more communities than ever, with city hubs in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Aberdeen and South London, as well as a network of sessions across 6 other local authorities.

Role Purpose

In 2020, Street Soccer developed ‘The Network Programme’ to expand our services out of our four main city hubs to serve the local communities and socially disadvantaged groups across Scotland. The Network Programme has quickly expanded and now operates in 7 different local authorities across the country. Having already supported 500 people in these areas.

As we continue to expand, we would like to grow to offer Street Soccer Sessions to the communities of West Dumbartonshire as well as providing opportunities for people to engage in SCQF qualifications, tournaments and events including The Homeless World Cup.

The Programme Co-Ordinator will be responsible for developing the Network Programme within West Dumbartonshire. Responsible for sourcing and managing suitable venues for sessions to take place. They will recruit and work with partners to ensure players get the right level of support across a variety of issues. They will grow the number of players attending sessions by promoting these across the community in a variety of ways.

An enthusiastic person, the Programme Co-Ordinator will be able to build relationships with a series of communities across West Dumbartonshire. They will also work with the Fundraising Team to establish local opportunities for sponsorship and other support.

Overview

OPFS was founded in 1940 and since then we have been at the forefront of shaping policy and services in Scotland, that support single parents and their children. Today, there are over 144,000 single parent families in Scotland, 25% of all families. We involve parents, champion their voices and keep their needs at the heart of everything we do.

We want a society in which single parent families are treated equally and fairly. To help achieve this we provide a range of single parent tailored services. We do this through our advice channels, self-help pages on our website and our local community-based services. To create lasting change we involve single parents, experts by experience, to influence policies which challenge discrimination and judgmental attitudes, which will reduce child poverty and make services more accessible to all families.

The Policy and Influencing Lead will play a key role in supporting OPFS to achieve its mission – to amplify the voices of single parent families in their unique role as sole carers and providers and together challenge judgemental attitudes, poverty and inequality to achieve change.

You will have a central role leading OPFS policy and influencing work, including:

• Leading on government and parliamentary focused engagement work – and to support single parent led and developed campaigns.
• Developing strong policy recommendations co-produced with single parents across the range of issues affecting single parent families.
• Utilising existing research of relevance to single parent families to support OPFS’s external messaging and forward planning.
• Developing impactful policy influencing strategies to improve the lives of single parents, by influencing the Scottish and UK Governments as well as local authorities and the general public to achieve change.
• Working collaboratively with OPFS Comms team and colleagues and stakeholders to disseminate OPFS policy and research activities.

What is the role

We are recruiting for multiple Relief Support Co-ordinators to support our team across Scotland. Relief Support Co-ordinators provide cover over weekdays, evenings and weekends. Shifts are offered when they are available, but there is no obligation to accept work.

We are looking for Relief Support Co-ordinators to cover one of the following localities:

• Edinburgh, Lothian and Borders locality
• Highlands and Islands locality (Inverness, Wick, Tain, Lochmaddy, Oban, Stornoway, Campbelltown)
• Central Scotland and Fife - Fife, Dunfermline, Kirkcaldy, Glenrothes, Falkirk, Stirling and Clackmannanshire (Alloa)
• South West locality - (Areas: Ayrshire, Dumfries/Galloway, Inverclyde, east Dunbartonshire west Dunbartonshire Argyle& Bute)
• West locality - (North and South Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire)

**Note that as a sessional worker, and if you are successful, we can agree a specific area within a locality or different localities you would like to cover**

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the work of VSS through helping plan service delivery which is provided by a team of skilled and knowledgeable volunteers. You will be involved in planning their deployment to ensure that the service delivered meets the desired outcomes of victims and witnesses of crime, our service users.

We are looking for people who are experienced in a similar role. You must be confident to challenge stereotyping, prejudice, discrimination, and bias. The ability to travel across the Highlands and Islands is essential and therefore a current driving licence and access to a car is required.

What we offer?

Relief Support Co-ordinators receive an hourly rate of £14.51 per hour. Full training is provided as well as opportunities for further development. Entitled to 5.6 weeks annual leave pro rata.
