Learning & Leadership for Economic Empowerment

The Challenges Group is a long-standing provider of management and leadership training to a range of audiences globally, including through our strategic partnership with the Chartered Management Institute. We are seeking a Business Development Manager for our Scotland based Learning & Leadership team. The Learning & Leadership team are responsible for facilitating a range of training delivery to a number of key client groups in Scotland, either within programmes that support under-represented groups (such as the award-winning Making Work Work) or as a B2B training offer.

The role

The Business Development Manager will work closely with the Business Development Director and the Senior Manager, Learning & Leadership. There may be opportunities to support other areas of Challenges work on finding enterprising solutions to global challenges, depending on experience, knowledge and availability.

The successful candidate will be expected to work flexibly in a hybrid pattern based out of the Challenges office in Edinburgh, where we are co-located with a number of social enterprises and social enterprise support agencies. It is a vibrant, dynamic working environment within the My Edinburgh ecosystem dedicated to social change. Some travel, for example to meet clients, develop business relationships or participate in events will be required. Challenges works according to an outcomes-focused, flexible working model and the successful candidate will be expected to manage their time in accordance with their responsibilities, workload and non-work commitments in a way which supports team collaboration and achievement of common objectives.

Do you want to use your skills to make it possible for people with myeloma, an incurable blood cancer, to live longer and better lives?

Myeloma UK is looking for a motivated and highly pro-active Trusts and Grants Officer to join our Philanthropy team within the wider Fundraising directorate. We welcome applications from people with prior experience or transferable skills who want to explore trusts and grants fundraising and/or fundraising within the health sector. The successful candidate will have a passion for writing, excellent organisational, presentation, communication and record-keeping skills, with an ability to understand and interpret financial data. The post holder will need to be self-motivated and a team player, with flexibility and a willingness to develop and expand the role. In this exciting position, you’ll have the opportunity to draft compelling proposals, identify and cultivate relationships with grant making organisations, and secure gifts ranging from £100 to £10,000.

Experience of fundraising from charitable trusts and foundations, building project budgets and the use of the Raisers Edge CRM system as well as knowledge of prospective funders within the trust and foundation and corporate sectors would be advantageous, but not essential.

About the role

Myeloma UK has an ambitious plan for income growth. We launched a new organisational strategy in 2024 and will launch our new research strategy in mid-2025. We’re making amazing progress in the research and treatment of myeloma – but we need to go further, faster. This position will play a critical role securing grants of up to £10K from trusts, foundations, and grant funders for a range of innovative and life-changing programmes – including patient and family support, research and advocacy. The role will work closely with the Senior Trusts and Grants Officer, who leads on the medium and large grants programme, and income from pharmaceutical partners.

The post holder will deliver the grant process from start-to-finish including administration, research, and managing and growing a pipeline of small trusts. You will work with colleagues from across the charity to build high quality proposals and develop reports for funders. You will also work directly with funders to understand their priorities and offer excellent stewardship.

Who we are

Alzheimer Scotland is Scotland’s national dementia charity. Our aim is to make sure nobody faces dementia alone. We provide support and information to people with dementia, their carers and families, we campaign for the rights of people with dementia and fund vital dementia research.

What you’ll do

In this role, you will be the first point of contact for our staff and volunteers using IT, providing technical support and troubleshooting assistance through the IT service desk platform. You will handle a variety of IT-related issues, ensuring that our systems run smoothly and efficiently. You will also support the wider IT team to implement new systems and technical projects. This is a great opportunity to join an experienced in-house IT team. In the role you will increase your working knowledge of Windows PC support, Windows Server, IT Networking, Applications Support and Cyber-Security. This role is office based in either the Edinburgh or Glasgow office although some occasional travel may be required across Scotland to provide support in.

What you’ll have

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, be passionate about technology and be eager to help others. You will be able to build rapport fast and deliver great customer service. You will ideally hold IT certification and have completed IT training from an HNC or equivalent level . Previous experience of working on an IT service desk would be beneficial .

Held In Our Hearts’ Organisational Background:

We are a Scottish charity providing baby loss counselling and peer support to bereaved families, with over 40 years’ experience of offering compassionate bereavement care in the community.

Many of our staff are bereaved parents themselves, so through shared, lived experience, we provide compassion and support to each other and connect through our care for our families and each other. Our families are the heart of everything that we do. All our support is free, personal to each family and for as long as is needed. Our support includes counselling, one-to-one peer support, our new and expanding Hospital to Home service, group support and events.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and driven Fundraiser to join our growing team. In this role, you will take an active lead in securing income to improve the lives of families impacted by baby loss. You will build meaningful relationships, drive fundraising initiatives, and develop strategic partnerships throughout Scotland to ensure we have the funds needed to deliver our specialist services for every family we support.

The perfect candidate will enjoy forging positive and robust relationships, including but not limited to, corporate partners and local small businesses across Scotland’s central belt and into surrounding areas, delivering vital income for our charity.

Working proactively to generate new business leads, the candidate will secure valuable partnerships for our charity, by undertaking research, creating compelling proposals for a range of audiences and pitching to companies to secure their support.

The Fundraiser will be joining a hard-working and growing fundraising team, working closely with our Head of Fundraising, our Philanthropy & Partnership Lead and our Highland’s Fundraiser, as well as the wider Held In Our Hearts team.

We are looking for an engaging, passionate and tenacious person who can deliver strong, cost effective and sustainable income growth for the charity, along with great copy writing, admin and organisational skills, experienced at developing relationships, and can manage a busy and varied workload.

We welcome applicants from a variety of backgrounds including (but not limited to) account management, marketing, fundraising, event management or sales. Third sector experience is desirable but not essential. Experience working in challenge fundraising would be advantageous.

This role will require some weekend and evening working for which time off in lieu will be agreed, and travel will be required to meet with new and existing corporate partners.
