Our positions

• Chair of the Finance, Risk, Audit and Compliance Committee and Trustee

The Finance, Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee plays a key role in the oversight and monitoring of the work of SCIAF and thus strengthens its accountability. The Chair of this committee serves on our Board of Directors.

In addition to the skills required of all Board members, we are looking for a Chartered Accountant (or equivalent) who has worked at a senior level in the finance sector, in industry, the third or public sector. This highly experienced individual will also:

o Have held senior level positions in the accounting divisions of professional

services firms (ideally Partner) or in Industry (ideally Managing Director level or

equivalent in the Finance function).

o Understand financial accounts and accounting conventions, and has

experience of attending Finance Committees / Boards at a senior level.

o Understand Risk and Compliance sufficiently well as to be able to steer those

topics as chair of a committee.

Experience at Board level in the charity sector would be desirable as would

experience of investment portfolio management.

• Public Engagement Committee – Committee Member

We are currently looking to appoint a new Committee Member for our Public Engagement Committee. This committee plays a crucial role at SCIAF by contributing technical and professional advice, expertise and constructive critique to

staff in the development of strategies and plans pertaining to outreach activities in parishes and schools, campaigning, advocacy and fundraising.

We are particularly keen to identify a skilled individual with experience in one or more of the following areas:

o Crisis Management Communications

o Income Generation and Diversification

o Policy and Public Affairs

o Development Education

o Advocacy & Campaigns

Time commitment

• The term of office for each of our governance positions is three years which is renewable, up to two times.

• Both our Board of Directors and various committees meet four times per year. In addition to this, Trustees and Committee Members are sometimes requested to attend other SCIAF meetings to offer their advice and support.

Safeguarding/Code of Conduct

Whilst Committee and Board members generally do not have a regulated role, there may be circumstances where the role falls into the category of regulated such as for overseas travel to review Projects and a satisfactory PVG check from Disclosure Scotland will be required.

All staff and volunteers are required to adhere to SCIAF’s Safeguarding Policy and a Code of Conduct which specifies the attitudes and behaviours that all staff and volunteers are expected to maintain.

NWCAB’s Board of Directors are looking for four new Directors to work alongside other board members to oversee and support our Chief Executive and our dynamic team of staff and volunteers. Later this year, we will be moving premises and we are seeking to expand our Board to support this process and our onward development. At this important point in our journey, we are seeking Directors who can bring different perspectives to help the Bureau achieve its plans for the future and provide the most relevant and accessible advice services possible.

The Board is currently made up of seven Directors, each offering a different skill-set that can support the governance needs and development aims of the organisation. We welcome applications from anyone who feels passionate about our work, regardless of professional background.

The Board has identified an upcoming skills gap related to third sector fundraising and governance, and we hope to fill one of the four roles with someone who has experience of this kind. We would encourage applicants with this background to also consider joining our Finance, Risk, and Audit Committee (FRAC).

For the remaining three roles, we encourage candidates of all kinds, particularly those with strong knowledge of and connections to north west Glasgow. Most important to us is finding candidates who fit our values and our organisation. We are looking for people who are approachable, transparent, team players, positive influencers and who are willing to contribute to debate.

Fair Change Co is the new trading subsidiary of Scottish Fair Trade. We are seeking to appoint up to three new directors, including a Chair, to support the development and growth of the trading subsidiary.

Fair Change Co supports businesses and public sector organisations to realise their ethical potential. While we have been delivering consultancy through our sister organisation, Scottish Fair Trade, for some time now, Fair Change Co is a new, dedicated channel that enables us to reach out to businesses and public sector organisations who are looking to strengthen their ethical commitments and reach new markets.

The trading subsidiary offers consultancy services to encourage more ethical supply chains and to help businesses access the Scottish market. As well as supporting better business practices, the subsidiary aims to generate income for Scottish Fair Trade and therefore support the campaign in Scotland for fair and ethical trade.

We are seeking three additional directors to join the Board of the new subsidiary. Potential directors will have experience and/or knowledge of some (but not necessarily all) of the following: business with a social mission, charity trading subsidiaries, marketing, provision of consultancy services, financial management, building relationships with customer organisations.

We are also seeking a new Chair who will be responsible for leading board meetings and ensuring productive outcomes.

They will also provide support to the Chief Executive, ensure compliance with regulatory and financial standards, and guide us through this important phase of development whilst adhering to our organisational values.

The Board meet on average five times a year online or in person at our offices in Glasgow (hybrid option always available).

Who we are

Alzheimer Scotland is Scotland’s national dementia charity. Our aim is to make sure nobody faces dementia alone. We provide support and information to people with dementia, their carers and families, we campaign for the rights of people with dementia and fund vital dementia research.

What you’ll do

You will be responsible for supporting people living with dementia to achieve good outcomes using a range of therapeutic interventions, resources and activities as appropriate. You will also work with the Commissioned Service Lead to complete and maintain high-quality person-centred documentation, assessments and reviews, taking appropriate actions to maintain the safety and wellbeing of those who use the Day Service.

Working as part of the Registered and Commissioned Services team you will have responsibility for ensuring that services are of the highest quality and meet Alzheimer Scotland’s vision for unique therapeutic, highly person-centred support. You will work with the wider team and Commissioned Service Lead to ensure safe practice and delivery of high-quality, person-centred, therapeutic Registered and Commissioned Services, ensuring practice complies with Alzheimer Scotland’s policies. You will contribute to evidencing, reviewing and continually improving the quality of the services and will participate in internal audit and Care Inspectorate inspections.

You will also work with the wider team to evidence that services meet Alzheimer Scotland’s Quality Guarantees, Scotland’s Health and Social Care standards and other quality frameworks including those of the Care Inspectorate where relevant. This includes ensuring that the activities and support offered meet the identified personal outcomes of those attending the services.

You will be based in our Day Services operating from Taigh Shiphoirt, Stornoway which at times, will involve working without supervision in the absence of the Commissioned Service Lead. You will work 9am – 5pm with the usual work pattern of 2 weeks of 2 x 7 hour shift and 2 weeks of 3 x 7 hour shift in the Day Services. Your working days will be set however an element of flexibility will be required at times to ensure the continuous safe delivery of service. This also includes a flexible and positive approach to accepting delegated tasks with support from the Commissioned Service lead to maintain the safe running of the service in the Western Isles such as health and safety checks, basic finance tasks etc.

What you’ll have

The successful candidate will have:

• A good understanding and/or experience of working with or supporting people living with dementia and their families.
• An understanding of the benefit of high quality, evidence based therapeutic activity, ongoing evaluation, quality assurance and continuous improvement.
• Knowledge and understanding of the Health and Social Care Standards and SSSC codes of practice and the Care Inspectorate and their role in registered services.
• Understanding and knowledge of dementia, mild cognitive impairment and Brain Health and experience of working with or supporting people living with dementia and their families.
• A recognised professional qualification in health, social work or related field, to SCQF Level 6 (SVQ 2)
• You will also possess strong administration skills and be comfortable with IT Systems such as Windows, Email, Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel etc
