Are you looking to make a positive change in society through communications work? At Samaritans Scotland we are seeking a Communications Officer to join our friendly team in Edinburgh.

As Communications Officer, you’ll ensure the smooth delivery of internal and external communications in Scotland, including media and PR. Working across new and existing Samaritans’ campaigns, representing Samaritans to external stakeholders, reacting to the day-to-day news and supporting the development and delivery of a variety of projects.

You’ll be a key driver of our marketing and brand in Scotland. Working with our volunteers, story tellers and partners to support engagement and understanding of our work.

Samaritans Scotland

Join a friendly, supportive, and ambitious staff team in Scotland. Our established Policy and Communications team is working with a range of external stakeholders including the Scottish Government, MSPs and local partners to achieve change and have an impact on suicide risk. There are around 1000 Samaritans volunteers across Scotland working in our 19 branches. These volunteers respond to calls for help every day of the week via telephone, e-mail, text and in person at our branches or at events across Scotland. Our staff team works to support and promote our services and ensure that people know we’re here when they need us.

We also work with the public and the media to inform them about Samaritans and explain how we can help people find their own way forward, as well as supporting the delivery of media guidelines training in Scotland.

The Trust

Lanarkshire Cancer Care Trust is a local charity helping cancer patients from all over Lanarkshire by giving them free transport to and from their much-needed hospital and clinic cancer treatments. Our service, which has been running for more than 30 years, is delivered by more than 100 Volunteer Drivers who give their vehicle and time free-of-charge, and we in turn repay them their motoring expenses at a rate of 45p per mile.

The Role

The Fundraiser will play a key role in developing and maintaining relationships with our supporters. We are looking for someone with great people skills, as well as drive, initiative, and determination. You will be diligent and accurate, as well as having a dynamic approach to your work. You will be a natural problem-solver, always looking to improve upon current processes to ensure efficiency.

Responsibilities:

• Assist with, and develop, fundraising events, campaigns and initiatives to engage the Lanarkshire Community and raise awareness of our service.
• Take responsibility to maintain and expand our collection can base, which is currently available in over 200 businesses throughout Lanarkshire.
• Create fundraising materials, including grant proposals.
• Work with other experienced staff members on project funding initiatives.
• Attend networking events to promote our service and fundraising initiatives.

Qualifications:

• Drivers Licence and own vehicle is essential
• You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Solid organisational skills and the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
• Self-motivated and proactive with the ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
• Passionate about the service we deliver and the community we serve.

The Supported Housing Worker role requires assisting in the management of the development thus ensuring the tenants are able to enjoy an acceptable standard of living in an environment which is clean, safe and friendly. You will be responsible for overseeing the wellbeing of the tenants and for assisting them in maintaining their independence.

As Housing Care Worker your role will involve working with our tenants to ensure they receive the support and personal care identified in their care plans. You will directly support tenants in their homes by providing individual advice, practical housing support assistance and personal care.

Both roles are to ensure that we are able to offer the best service to our tenants and make it possible for our tenants to continue enjoying as much independent living as they’re able.

• We’d like a degree in Health and Social Care, Social Work or equivalent but, if you hold a recognised, relevant professional qualification at a minimum SVQ Level 4 with relevant workplace experience this works too.
• Up to date child and vulnerable adult protection knowledge together and ideally completion of suicide prevention training such as ASIST.
• You are an exceptional compassionate individual with experience of working with those in society who’ve faced personal challenges, childhood disturbance, abuse, separation, institutional care and trauma
• Curiosity, empathy and a focus on learning, empowerment, collaboration and self- awareness.
• Worked with staff in accordance with the statutory framework and requirement including GDPR, BACP, the SSSC and the Care Inspectorate.

With a great range of benefits including 30 days annual leave plus 10 public holidays and 2 wellbeing days we work fulltime 36.25 hours per week. The salary scale for this post is Point 39 to 43 (£37,716 to £41,729).
