About us

Angus Carers Centre is a rights-based charity working with and for unpaid carers from all walks of life living across Angus. We exist to improve the quality of life for all carers by building genuine and equal relationships, connecting carers with each other to create a sense of belonging and community, providing practical and emotional supports, and influencing change at local and national level.

Established in 1996, we have grown significantly over the last 25 years, and we are now supporting nearly 2,000 unpaid adult and young carers across Angus. Our talented and passionate team of 25 staff and over 20 volunteers ensure the needs of our carers are meet. Together with our volunteers we strive to provide a first-class service to carers and their families, to make a lasting difference to their lives.

Our vision is that all unpaid carers in Angus will receive appropriate information and support to enable them to feel valued and confident in their caring situation and to develop their own potential.

Job overview

The postholder will:

• Lead, recruit, and support volunteers to ensure they are motivated, and feel valued and respected making a lasting difference in our communities.
• Develop volunteering strategy, ensuring it is inclusive, future-focused, and carers-centered.
• Promote and champion the role of volunteers by building and maintaining relationships with key partners, local organisations, and influencers.
• Provide safe, nurturing, and developmental support supervision to a team of volunteers.
• Design, deliver and evaluate volunteering activities ensuring they align with local need and organisational vision.
• Continuously evidence and communicate the impact of volunteering, internally and externally to further demonstrate its value: individual, organisational, and societal.
• Establish strong relationships with other volunteer organisations to share learnings and good practice and build a network of support.
• Build a network of supportive organisations and communities of interest to strengthen the role and profile of unpaid carers.
• Collaborate with other teams, business support, finance, fundraising and others, to support all aspects of volunteering, including events management, training, and professional development.
• Continuously strive for excellence by ensuring learning is embedded in practice, policies, and systems
• Keep abreast of legislation, policy and good practice related to volunteering.

Qualifications and knowledge:

• Degree in community education, social care, project management or relevant experience in developing, leading, and supporting volunteers.
• Knowledge of safeguarding, health and safety, and data protection.
• Understanding of the needs of diverse individuals and communities.
• Full Driving License and a suitable vehicle for work with business insurance.

Experience

• Experience in all aspects of effective Volunteer Management (recruitment, training, support)
• Experience of collaborating with external stakeholders including communities, voluntary and private organisations, and individuals,
• Experience of project management, achieving goals, managing a busy workload, and working to deadlines
• Experience of partnership working, preferably in the Third Sector
• Experience of service development, delivery, and evaluation

Working hours

16 hours per week subject to organisational needs. Some work may have to be undertaken outside office hours, including evenings and weekends.

Special conditions

The post entails work with vulnerable people and falls within the definition of “regulated work” under the provision of the Protection of Vulnerable groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The post holder will require to be registered as a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme, which will involve a Disclosure Scotland check.

Our Routes Young Persons programme is currently expanding in West Dunbartonshire. Due to an internal promotion, we have a vacancy for a Young Persons Support Worker to join our existing team.

Are you looking for a role where you can truly make a difference to young people’s lives? Routes is our youth work programme which launched in 2019. We support young people in East and West Dunbartonshire aged 12-26 years who are affected by family alcohol and drug use. You will play an integral part in creating a supportive and nurturing environment for young people, helping them to thrive in all aspects of their lives.

The post is predominantly located in West Dunbartonshire but will involve travel throughout both East and West Dunbartonshire for weekly groups. The post has an area-wide remit and will involve significant travel throughout the area and some to our offices in Glasgow, as well as occasional travel elsewhere in Scotland. Some home working is involved. Due to the nature of this post, access to a car is essential. This post will be part of Scottish Families’ staff team and be managed by the Senior Family Support Development Officer – Young People. There will be a close working relationship with young people and with local partner agencies in West Dunbartonshire.

The post-holder will support the delivery of Routes; ensure that young people engaged with the project are properly safeguarded and supported; co-facilitate a range of group activities with the young people; support young people to develop coping skills and strategies to help reduce the negative impact that other’s substance use may have on them; transport young people to and from groups, trips, and activities; plan, organise and facilitate trips and activities; and support young people to source and apply for Education, Training and Employment opportunities.

Applicants should be educated to HNC level, vocational qualification (level 3) or relevant experience; with an understanding of the emotional and developmental issues for children and young people. Experience of community-based youth work experience via employment or as a volunteer, and experience of delivering group work activities, are an advantage. We are seeking someone who is able to build rapport, positively engage and support young people; with the ability to listen and talk to young people from differing abilities, understanding and backgrounds. You should be available to work flexible hours, including some evenings (rarely beyond 7pm). Due to the nature of this post, access to a car is essential.

We are looking for a responsible individual to develop and deliver a challenging and progressive youth work programme in a safe industrious and supportive environment working mainly with young people between ages of 10-25 from BME and Roma backgrounds within Pollokshields and Govanhill.

Principle Duties

1-Day to Day operational management of youth provision at YCSA

2-Direct management of the post of youth worker, sessional youth workers and volunteers

3-Updating and supervision of training and development for youth workers, volunteers and mentors

4-Overall responsibility for sessional and reporting and evaluation

5-Input to fundraising and development of YCSA programmes

6-Representing YCSA at appropriate meetings, neighbourhood partnership and liaise on meetings as directed by the Executive Lead

7-Provide for the social, educational and recreational needs, and for the individual developmental needs of local young people

8- Available for evening work

9-Work with partners to develop, extend and improve youth provision in the Pollokshields and Govanhill area

10-Carry out managerial and administrative duties in accordance with the requirements of the Executive Lead

11-Preparation, co-ordination and presentation of the relevant reports and information required within the agreed frameworks of the EL and funders

12-Co-operative and liaise effectively with management and young people to ensue effective delivery of services

13-Attend regular supervision with Executive Lead in accordance with YCSA’s policies

Person Specification

We are looking for an individual who can demonstrate the following competencies to a high level and want to use to the full in their work. We will be looking for evidence of all the following key competencies during the selection process, if you are shortlisted.

The individual will be required to work a number of evenings during the week, due to the nature of the services provided to young people.

Essential Experience

A recognised youth work qualification and 2 years’ experience of managing a youth provision

2 years’ experience of managing, supervising and training staff

Who Cares? Scotland is Scotland’s only national independent membership organisation for Care Experienced people. Our mission is to secure a lifetime of equality, respect, and love for Care Experienced people in Scotland and we currently have over 3000 Care Experienced members.

At the heart of Who Cares? Scotland’s work are the rights of Care Experienced children and young people, and the power of their voices to bring about positive change. We provide individual relationship-based independent advocacy and a broad range of imaginative participatory opportunity for Care Experienced young people across Scotland; we work alongside corporate parents and communities of all sorts to broaden understanding; we work with policy makers, leaders and elected representatives locally and nationally to shape law, policy and practice on the basis of all that can be learnt from the voices of those with experience of care - working together to build on the aspirations of The Promise and secure positive change.

The post holder will work directly with children and young people with experience of care, in an individual relationship-based advocacy role, and within participation and group activity across our West Central region. This unique role requires you to listen to what children and young people with experience of care say and support them to ensure their rights are upheld and their voices are heard in the processes of making decisions about their lives. You will also help facilitate a broad range of participatory and engagement opportunities and create the conditions for collective advocacy.

The right candidate for this post will be brilliant at forming positive relationships with children and young people. You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, adaptable to a wide range of contexts. You will enjoy working collaboratively with partners. You will be committed to children’s rights, inclusive working, equal opportunities, and believe that all young people can make transformative change happen in their lives if given the opportunity.

The successful candidate will be joining Who Cares? Scotland and working within the West Central locality team at an exciting time, when the voices of those who are in or have experienced care are growing in power, individually and collectively - bringing with them insight, challenge, hope and change. Flexibility will be required given the remit of the role. Some evening and weekend work will be necessary, as will a full driving licence and access to transport.
