An exciting opportunity has arisen within North Lanarkshire to be part of a new early intervention family support service – Families Here and Now. This project is funded by North Lanarkshire Council and will provide holistic support for the whole family in local communities/hub areas.

You will play a key role in developing this service alongside families and community partners. The service is a collaboration between four charities: Barnardo’s, Home-Start Glasgow North and North Lanarkshire (HSGNNL), Action for Children and Impact Arts, and you will work closely with colleagues from these organisations.

This outreach support role covers the North Lanarkshire area, based in or around community hubs/schools/nurseries and family homes. The aim of the service is to enable families (pregnant and/or with children up to age 18 years/26 years for care experienced children) to access supports at the earliest possible time, ensuring a ‘whole family’ and ‘no wrong door’ approach.

The service will operate 7 days a week between the hours of 8 am – 8 pm, 365 days per year.

The postholder will be required to work at least one evening every fortnight and at least one weekend every 8 weeks.

The role is initially funded until April 2027.

Home-Start Stirling is a volunteer-led charity with 24 years’ experience working in local communities, supporting families with a child under the age of 5 in the home. We are currently recruiting for the role of family support worker. Whilst our office is based in Raploch, the successful candidate will be required to support families across Stirlingshire. This role is initially funded for one year.

The families that we support are struggling with daily challenges such as mental health, disability, poverty, domestic abuse, trauma, isolation and loneliness. We provide 1-1 support to families within their homes, a diverse group work programme and additional therapeutic supports.

Key responsibilities:

• An understanding of the needs of children and families

• The ability to support a caseload of families

• Previous experience of working with children and families experiencing challenges and trauma.

• Experience of working in partnership with both statutory services and third sector partnerships

• Good working knowledge of child protection and child development

• Good IT and database skills

• Full driving licence and use of a car is essential.

This post is also subject to registration with the SSSC (Scottish Social Services Council) and therefore the candidate will have to hold a minimum level of HNC/SVQ 3 qualification in a related field.

You will be enthusiastic, motivated and a caring individual who will contribute to the development of care and support plans, working in a child centred outcomes focused manner to ensure that children, young people and their families get the most out of their service. You will work closely with internal and external colleagues in a multi-agency approach to ensure that the holistic needs of children, young people and families are central to service provision. We are particularly looking for workers who have health care experience, knowledge and skills to support children and young people with complex health needs within their own homes.

We are looking for candidates who are passionate about supporting young people, families and communities, who are flexible and share our vision that collaborative working and relationship based early intervention is the best option for young people and families who are feeling overwhelmed or excluded.

Full time and part time staff participate in a three week rolling rota. This includes evening, weekends, overnights across 7 days per week. Minimum 15 hours per week for part time staff, up to 37.5 hours per week for full time staff.

About the service

At Woodburn, we understand how important it is to replicate a warm home environment for young people. We provide full-time care and support for two young people with learning disabilities who at times present behaviour that challenges and are unable to live with their own families. We focus on building meaningful relationships with children and young people and being able to support them achieving outcomes and gaining new skills and independence(whether that's making their own toast or independently accessing the community).

You’ll care for our young people by assisting with their daily routines, providing personal care, and administering medication after appropriate training. You’ll collaborate with the team to create and implement individualised plans tailored to each young person’s needs.

Additionally, you’ll engage our young people in activities they enjoy, such as arts and crafts, puzzles, X-Box, walks, swimming, and more!

We firmly believe that behaviour is communication and work to identify what the young people are trying to tell us through their behaviour and support them to communicate that in a positive way.

How you'll help to create brighter futures

Some key responsibilities of the Residential Support Worker roles are;

• Provide lead case/care planning management, including assessing, reviewing and managing risk.
• Co-ordinating responsibilities within the service, with multi agency and producing family information, including analysis and written reports.
• Attendance at professional meetings including reviews, court work etc.
• Help young people in all aspects of their daily lives.
• Have good communication skills and the ability to engage well with both young people, colleagues and other professionals.
