Role

Granton Youth (affectionately known as GY) provides opportunities for young people aged 11-27 living within North Edinburgh. GY is recognised through its service delivery of open youth work, outreach work, detached streetwork, music, physical activities, family support, counselling, volunteering and schools-based programmes to support and engage our local young people and their families, who actively participate in designing services and programmes we provide.

Remuneration: This role is voluntary with no financial remuneration.

Location: GY work is based in north Edinburgh.

Time commitment: Board meetings are called as and when decisions are required. On average board meetings are held quarterly. The meetings are a mix of in-person and virtual.

The Chair has weekly meetings with the Manager to receive updates and to support the manager. These are a mix of face to face, virtual or via telephone. Normally around 30 – 45 minutes.

The Chair currently keeps the board up to date with any updates through email or where appropriate videocall, if there is any urgency.

Prior to board meetings the Chair updates the risk register and sends out the standard Agenda.

Person Specification

Criteria Essential

Experience Chairing board or equivalent, strategic leadership roles

Knowledge/Skills No knowledge of youth sector required.

Effective oral and written communication skills.

Sound judgement.

The Current Board Chair will provide for an interim period (to be mutually agreed with the new Chair) so you won’t be dropped in at the deep end.

This roles will suit those interested in developing their skills and knowledge of leading at a strategic level or who already have this experience.

Trustee – the renumeration is as per Chair. The Time commitment is based on quarterly meetings lasted approximately 1.5 to 2 hours max held in person and on line. In terms of specification – an interest in supporting young people and families is key. You will bring your life skills to the board.
