Role

SHAX is a social enterprise and registered charity that provides support for people affected by homelessness and/or poverty. The charity reuses, recycles and repurposes donations to help others, but also to divert household waste from landfill. In addition to providing emergency home Starter Packs that help people to sustain new tenancies, SHAX operates a re-use furniture warehouse at The Crichton in Dumfries. This provides affordable, quality-checked furniture and other household accessories for the wider community and provides volunteer and work placement opportunities for local people. Income is reinvested into the organisation to fulfil its social purpose.

Due to the current manager retiring after 10 years in the role, SHAX has a vacancy for a full-time Manager based at our warehouse in Dumfries.

This is a demanding but rewarding role for an experienced third sector manager who is passionate about supporting some of the most deprived people in our communities, protecting the planet and providing training and volunteering opportunities for local people.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated and capable of managing the strategic and day-to-day operations of the organisation, with the support of a dedicated team of trustees, employees and volunteers.

This is a rare and exciting opportunity for the right person to manage the growth and development of SHAX, in a way that will have a positive impact on people, place, partnerships and priorities.

Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Manager will lead and motivate a small team of employees and volunteers, enhance services, ensure legal obligations are met, generate income through commercial opportunities and grant funding and be the main point of contact with strategic partners and funders as well as the local community.
