Role

Early Years Scotland (EYS) is passionate about Scotland’s youngest children having the best possible start in life and we are searching for a very special person to help make that happen. We have an exciting opportunity available for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to work within HMP Perth to facilitate and support young children affected by parental imprisonment. The support is offered through, shared play and learning sessions with imprisoned parents, their partners / families and young children.

You will deliver a multi-component project to support fathers of children aged 0 -5 years who are currently residents in HMP Perth. You will deliver the EYS Children Affected by Imprisonment Programme and Baby Massage sessions. The programme combines theoretical and experiential learning, all focused on play and learning with young children and highlights the importance of play for young children’s learning and development. You will plan, deliver and evaluate play and learning experiences to involve both children and parents. You will encourage positive relationships between parents and children through shared play and learning experiences during family visits and provide advocacy support and advice to women. You will also work closely with the Scottish Prison Service (SPS) and a wide range of partners to review learning and contribute to the development of future plans.

We welcome applications that demonstrate:

• sound understanding and knowledge of how young children develop and learn

• an ability to build effective relationships with families and have experience of working with parents and families experiencing challenging circumstances

• experience of working with a range of colleagues from other agencies

• excellent communication and organisational skills

• an ability to work on own initiative and as an effective member of a team

Applicants should be qualified practitioners (e.g. HNC Early Education & Childcare or SVQ Level 3 Children’s Care, Learning and Development)

A full, current driving licence with own transport for business use and membership of PVG Scheme are required
